Re: FS: 1993 500E, Smoke Silver / Cream-Beige, 151kmi, $18,500 (Fort Wayne, IN)

Do I need a new color monitor or does this car look like it's brilliant silver ?

I think it's the lighting. The radiator core support looks like Smoke Silver to me.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Smoke Silver / Cream-Beige, 151kmi, $18,500 (Fort Wayne, IN)

Yes, I see that the front support definitely does look like smoke silver, but the headlite trim panels in the same picture doesn't look like smoke silver (to me at least).

But you are prolly correct Glen, it's the lighting. One shot the interior looks grey, then in the others it is tan.

Save $200 on eBay:

AutoCheck attached. EPC datacard attached, <sarcasm> this car has a very unique paint color which is called "Range of Delivery", with interior color of "Pebbles". Probably related to Bam-Bam. The EPC is almighty and infallible, so it must be true. </sarcasm>

It's Smoke Silver (light gold-ish color paint), not Brilliant Silver. Same combo as my wife's 92. The lighting in those photos makes it look closer to 744 than 702. We're not crazy about the color combo either, and may eventually sell ours, especially since I have developed a rather severe allergy to mushroom. And more recently, dates.

:miserable:

I like the smoke silver exterior a lot. The [xx5] interiors looks good to me, but is too hard to keep clean in a daily driver. My kids do not like riding in the 500E because I make them clean their shoes and no food is allowed. I would definitely prefer a black interior.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Smoke Silver / Cream-Beige, 151kmi, $21,500 (Fort Wayne, IN)

Ditto. The 702 paint would be much more tolerable with a black (or brown) interior. I have a complete black interior laying around somewhere, it would probably make more sense to change the interior, than sell the whole car. Our Malachite/Mushroom combo is much more tolerable, for some reason. I think 702/275 is just too much beigeness.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Smoke Silver / Cream-Beige, 151kmi, $19k (Fort Wayne, IN)

I went to see this car today. It is very clean overall.
Noticed a few things that would appreciate feedback from you all on;
1. The car smelled like old man, does anyone else's car smell like this? Not to be stereotypical but it smelled like my grandparents basement, no other way to describe it.
2. Drove nice, from the inside when starting up it struggled/cranked for maybe 3/4 to one full second before firing up, is this normal for these cars at this age? From outside the car with hood up it didnt sound as noticeable.
3. Felt some bubbling of the paint on the underside edge of the rear driver fender, others not bad at all. Also had about a 5x8mm chipping of the paint just behind the drivers door handle. Where your index finger knuckle would hit for reference. Rest of the body looked really nice.
4. The engine bay looked great. Only thing that stood out to me was the foam air intake tubes, the were looking pretty deteriorated and passenger side had some small chunks ou t of it but not compromising airflow. Are these foam tubes durable or are they easily replaced for cheap or something better... Plastic? It was the only eyesore of the engine bay.
4. I agree that the interior is rather blah paired with the exterior.
5. Cracks in the wood trim below the shifter and in fro t of the console. Not horrendous but kind of an eye sore.

Solid maintenance records, scheduled maintenance checked out and also a fair amount of misc parts replaced over time.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Smoke Silver / Cream-Beige, 151kmi, $19k (Fort Wayne, IN)

I actually don't mind the color combo too much ... better than a gray interior with this exterior, LOL !

Thanks for the update on the car, Dziner82. These "boots on the ground" updates are great when people actually visit the car and assess it with a practiced eye. Much obliged !

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Smoke Silver / Cream-Beige, 151kmi, $19k (Fort Wayne, IN)

I finally have a 500E after a 23 year wait!!! Bought the car on Friday 5-15-2015. It passed the PPI at the local Mercedes dealer. They knew the car and the original owner. They said it was well maintained and i would be a fool not to buy it. The car is very tight for 151,500 on the clock. There are a few minor issues to address but not a big deal. Drove the car from Ft. Wayne to back to PA it ran strong and was a blast to cruise at Autobahn speeds. It felt great to be back behind the wheel of the best of the W124s. Alas, 3 miles from home a coolant hose let loose and I had to have it towed! Otherwise performed flawlessly on the 9 hour drive! Looking forward to attending the next East Coast event and meeting everyone! Thanks to Dziner82 for his report on the car, and Dave(gsxr) for answering many questions and providing valuable advice. Plus, all those that post and provide the treasure trove on valuable info on these cars by sharing their knowledge. Gerry you have created a truly special place on the web!

Re: SOLD: 1993 500E, Smoke Silver / Cream-Beige, 151kmi, $19k (Fort Wayne, IN)

Congratulations on the purchase. Seems like a nice one. Can't help but notice some similarities to mine (currently for sale). Mileages within a couple hundred miles of each other. Same exterior paint. Mine a '94. Both with fairly extensive papers albeit your car's history a little stronger and so on. Pricing seems to be in similar neighborhood also. And yes besides being glad for you, this is also a thinly veiled attempt at "waving my For Sale sign" again for a refresher.
Enjoy!

UPDATE:

My 93 is officially up for sale. Pics at the beginning of the thread depict the car perfectly. Driver seat was recovered with OEM MB skin and upper and lower seat pads. All fluids changed, new OEM MB hoses, starter and alternator were rebuilt. Brand new Conti DWS tires. New OEM MB fan clutch. The "Old Man Smell" listed in a previous post is actually the classic MB smell. Reason for sale is that I bought the 1992 Philadelphia car.

Really would like to see this car go to a board member! Feel free to contact me with questions. Thanks to GSXR for updating the thread!!!

Congrats Skikrazey! I bought the trunk liner from MTM and he said that you had bought it. I decided it was your call to share.

@skikrazey, any chance you could post some current photos? That might help a bit!

GSXR---The pics and far better than anything I can take and it looks the same except for I refinished the wheels and recovered the drivers seat.

maw1124---Car is in Wyomissing, PA. It will be in moved to Lebanon, NJ in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Still available, time is running out to get a good deal on this car. Would like to see it sell someone on here that will take care of it. Really don't want to see it get trashed out there in the wild!
