Staff member
No affiliation. Thanks to @janos_z for spotting this one.

UPDATE - Price reduced to $6900 in March 2025.

Looks a tad rough for the miles, price seems aligned closer to odometer vs condition. Potentially a good deal if the seller is flexible on the price. No options, unfortunately. Seller may be unaware that Mercedes continued to be built in Germany after the W124 production ended. :scratchchin: Headliner is sagging, coolant level is slightly low. CA car.

VIN = WDBEA34EXSC188021

didn’t think to check the forum but this was reposted recently and I went out to check the car, the frame where the car was hit is starting to rust and car has massive scratches and dents on the back plus a broken windshield. The guy gave me an auto check sheet printed out when I asked for a carfax and it said that the damage wasn’t reported. Was gonna bite the bullet and buy it today but apparently some guy in Long Beach put down a deposit without even seeing the state of the car right after we agreed on a time. Thank god that happened I guess

Also forgot to mention that the new ad states a rebuilt transmission but accelerates slower than my ML. Engine has oil sweat and a lot of the inside is bent out of shape or uncared for. Also saw rust in the trunk where the spare tire was held and sun roof was barely holding on.

Sounds like you might have dodged a bullet on this one.

Have you driven other 400E/E420's for comparison? The 2.24 gearing makes them feel a bit sluggish off the line, but they should scoot pretty well once the revs pass 3k or so.

Oh, the latest ad is here:

Classic 1995 Mercedes E420 with "little old lady" miles - $6,900 (alameda)

Take my mother’s car, please. Don’t get me wrong, this classic Mercedes is a beautiful car, but I’ve held onto it too long, hardly drive it, so it's time to go to a new home.

My mother, knowing this would probably be her last car, spent $50,000 on this Mercedes E420…in 1995. It was lightly driven, mostly around Pebble Beach, until she passed away. I remember her asking me once if she should get the wiring harness replaced, as her Mercedes mechanic suggested. At the time, I thought this was nuts and her mechanic was searching for work from a nice old lady. Turns out, that year had a defect, so the replacement was done. She always made sure everything was done to keep the car in great condition, inside and out.

Since my mom died several years ago, I’ve put in new brakes and the transmission was rebuilt at 100,000 miles. But I almost never drive the car and need the parking space. It needs to be driven by someone who appreciates this end-of-an-era Mercedes built on the final, highly regarded W124 platform. It features lovely bells and whistles like a leather interior, wood grain paneling, sunroof, and a smooth, powerful v8 engine. The only thing it needs is an AC recharge for summer driving. Current mileage is 104,000.

While I’m eager to sell, I also know the car’s value. So, I’ll take reasonable offers but please don’t low-ball me. I’m asking $6,900. To avoid scams, please no texting. Let's talk.

I was able to test drive it got it above 3k rpm but it was very underwhelming, I definitely think either I was lied to or it was some backyard mechanic

little more backstory: apparently it is his friends wife that owns the car and she doesn’t like it, mileage hasn’t gone up since it was passed on to her so I don’t see the need to rebuild the transmission and the brakes unless it was properly screwed up by the crash.
Was excited by the price considering I have a few 400e’s in nearby pick n pulls but this car is too shady
