That's a Special Edition in Sapphire Black. Nice color when it's not faded. Bummer it's a stripper otherwise (no options). The SE package on the 420 was just the 6-hole wheels, stainless door sill plates, and the 009 paint.

Engine may have low miles, but the chassis appears to have north of 250k... since it had 240k eight years ago:

If it were local and cheaper, I'd be tempted. I like the color but wouldn't want to pay for the needed respray. The lack of options is a buzzkill for me... I've been spoiled with ASR and bun warmers, can't live without 'em.

:watermelon:
I can certainly see the appeal of those options but I haven't missed them in my stripper E420.

Price on this one seems very good but I suspect it does need north of 5k in deferred maintenance to bring it up to good condition.

I'd be shocked if every bushing, joint and mount in that car wasn't in need of love...sadly. Nevermind ignition, wiring...rails.... To see one that is Otherwise is such the exception of late. Now one thing if the car has been Solidly and Clearly loved for the entirety. This very much has the look/feel and spidey sense of otherwise.

Bringing these cars back ONLY makes sense $$$ wise if you're doing 99% of the work yourself. Otherwise it make infinitly more sense to buy the Nicest one you can find and rock that...esp in the 034 market.

5k...lol. this is a 30-40G kind of estimate..easy:(
Nobody ever believes me when I quote large numbers for repair/refurbishment of these cars.

I would love to see the reactions if they had a 300SEL 6.3 and had to deal with the 6.3x multiplier for parts and labor prices. Makes an .036 seem like a bargain.

More and more .034s and .036s are becoming rolling parts cars every year. At this point, I'd say that pretty much any .034 under the $7.5-10K price range, is more valuable as a parts donator to keep .036s on the road, especially if they have ASR.

The car that is the subject of this thread, is very definitely a rolling parts donator. The interior is what I typically see of cars in the wrecking yards. The engine bay don' look so good......

Me neither till I show em the bill....ziiiiing.

But seriously, we are often having to correct what others made a Mess of plus parts pricing that's just gone full retard. It's a costly hobby getting more so by the day.

With all DIY labor and discount parts (Naperville, Annapolis, etc)... might get away under $10k all in, for mechanicals only (NO cosmetics, NO paint).

Paying a shop? North of $10k in a hurry. Add a few more grand if the transmission is original and never rebuilt due to the ~250k odo.

Totally agree that paying a lot more up front for a nicer example would be much more smarterer financially.

BTW - need more engine compartment photos, but I have a feeling the upper radiator support decals are MIA, and if so... this car had a significant front-end impact at some point.

:spend:

This is 100% correct. For my own 034 I got exceedingly lucky in finding one which at the time was mechanically great for a low price. I've probably spent about 3-4K in parts but aside from an alignment I've done all the work myself. It would be significantly more money if I sent the car out to a shop for the work if I could even find one willing and able to work on these older cars. My car now needs paint as the clear coat is finally failing on the hood and roof and while I haven't priced it out I know if I do it I will never recoup the cost because I'll still have a 034 with over 200k miles.

A lot of good points.
We do need more pics and info, but if this is a rolling parts car....a car with high differed maintenance, how much is this car worth?
Interpret a rolling parts car how you may...

Is it a tally of the known good parts, calculating the parts with average ebay prices with a multiplier of .5 or pick and pull prices with a multiplier of 0, or a multiplier of 1.5?

Parts car value may vary a bit, depending if you plan to keep the car+parts for your own use, or if you are buying the parts car to strip and sell everything. If you need the parts for your personal use, you might be willing to pay more... and if selling stuff, you never know if someone will pay what you think the parts are worth.

This car, with ~260kmi, might have some mechanical parts kinda worn out... or missing / replaced with aftermarket (i.e., the factory cats could be gone by now).

:seesaw:

I believe the SE package also included burl wood trim instead of Zebrano, too, didn't it?

I bought a 400E with 260k or thereabouts. Owner had recently done all the suspension rubber on it. Amazing ride, even with those miles on it, you would never know it without looking at the odometer.

That was on the pedestrian models. The E420 already had the burl wood.

My ~90K mile $0.6K 400 parts car has yielded over $3K in parts that have gone all over the world.
At very fair prices, or free + shipping.
And most of the car is still here, including beautiful gray leather interior…
