FOR SALE 1993 400E, Black/Black, 88kmi, $20k (Miami, FL)

I left a comment suggesting that potential buyers look very carefully at the comments on the previous auction on BaT, this forum and carryout a google search of the VIN. I wonder if my comments will mysteriously get blocked like how they did when the car was listed on BaT :buggin:. I would love to know what the reserve is!

Your comment came through! I'm surprised it hasn't been flagged yet.

I have a feeling reserve is definitely over $10k but I guess we'll see what happens.

Excellent! I'm microwaving the popcorn and watching from the side-lines this time. The groundwork has been laid for people to very easily carryout due diligence and pay whatever they think it's worth based on the vehicles history and general condition (or lack thereof). I also imagine that it has a high reserve up there in Lala Land.

Seller sounds miffed about the "trolling" on the previous BaT listing. If they had invested some $$$ into fixing the obvious flaws prior to listing on BaT, that never would have happened in the first place. Don't blame the trolls.

Appreciate the questions — happy to clarify!
Yes, this is the same 400E that was briefly listed on eBay Motors and Bring a Trailer earlier this year. We ultimately chose to withdraw the BaT listing after noticing the comments section was becoming overrun with non-constructive and troll-style commentary. While we appreciate the BaT community, we wanted to bring the car to a platform where the focus stays on the actual condition and value of the vehicle.
We felt Cars & Bids would be a better place to showcase this W124 — it’s a very clean example that shows well in person and has received a number of recent services, etc. Everything has been addressed except the headliner, which is noted in the listing.
We encourage anyone local or seriously interested to schedule an inspection or request a video walkaround — the car speaks for itself when seen or driven in person.
Thanks again for the interest!

Reserve not met, bid to $5,400. I thought it would bid higher (but likely still RNM).

Seller was late with attempted photos of the upper engine wire harness and still didn't get the date codes, or show the wires close up to verify the colored insulation is fully intact. So, still unknown if the harness "needs replaced" or not, although that isn't a big deal. Looks like a couple people are interested in the car depending on how much the dealer wants for it. Given the drama surrounding this one, might be smart to TTMAR, and move on.

Agreed, maybe the seller can list it on Copart 😂. Those wiring harness pictures were severely lacking. 🍋

'Trolling' - not that I believe anybody was, can't be blamed on that result. It's a reflection on the market and the condition of the vehicle based on the information provided to potential buyers

Passed thru dealer auction (yea, nobody wanted this car, they can be a lot of work!) Saying it doesn't get damaged, that's literally how cars get damaged - it's from the dealer auctions

Informed collectors?? - this is THE enthusiast site with decerned and educated collectors. The most frequent are the experts! That's a matter of fact!

They got butt hurt for being called out on the issues (idk what they are, I've only studied this auction)

So they did some work but not enough "cosmetically" like the headliner... it probably failed b/c this car sleeps outside

And they pulled out of bat b/c of "trolls??? They knew it was fishy from the start!

Well said

oh yea... i remember this car now! they want 20 racks for it and someone pointed out the AC issue. Copart is 100% a junkyard full of cars nobody wants! its like the discount outlets of high end stores selling left overs that... nobody wanted in the first place

you have to be really educated to purchase and do the work yourself if you're gonna flip from there
