1995 e420 struts/shocks question

Where is the best place to buy struts and shocks? My car has a pretty bouncy front end. I looked at FCP euro since they have great shipping rates to Hawaii. The front struts they have are Sachs 115-070. The rear struts available are Sachs 316-945 listed as sport, Bilstein touring. Which rear shocks are closet to OEM? Is it OK to mix Sachs front and Bilstein rear?
 
Check out FCP Euro, RM European, AutohausAZ, ECS Tuning, Pelican Parts, and Rock Auto. Not sure which will have the best deal for shipping to the islands.

As to which dampers to choose, it really depends what you are looking for... stock/soft ride, firmer/sporty ride, etc. There are so many different choices it's tough to know what will work best. The Sachs 115-070 struts should be fine. But I don't know which rear shock would be the best match. Yes you can mix brands but again, you want similar damping front & rear. Be careful with Bilstein entry-level parts, they have gone offshore and are not the same quality as years ago.

Ideally you'd get OE/Genuine dampers from discount dealers, but those will not have lifetime warranty like most aftermarket dampers. Hard to go wrong with the original factory parts. Don't forget to buy new strut stop buffers & accordion dust boots (OE only!), and check the strut mount condition as well. OE dampers do not include hardware, you either re-use the old hardware or buy it separately.

If shipping costs isn't exorbitant, I'd consider the OE/dealer dampers (plus buffers/boots/etc).

Otherwise new Bilstein/Sachs that are "HD" should be reasonably close to the factory stuff. Sounds like you would not want the Sport dampers.

Sport dampers would be nice and definitely improve handling but the roads here in Honolulu are worse than third world countries. I thought NYC had bad roads but we have some of the worst roads in the country. Pot holes everywhere. I have never bent a rim on any of my previous cars from years ago (E39 and E46 with sport suspension including an E46 M3) but recently bent one on my Model 3 with 20 in rims. One would think with the nice weather here that the roads would be pristine.
 
Be aware the 420 fronts are specific to the car. I did Struts and shocks on my 95 E 420 and we had to run the vin to get the right Sachs struts for my car. I used FCP and had to ether modify or return the first set of Struts I bought. I returned the first set and paid a little more to get the correct pair. Will look and see if I can find what the actual part # for the proper front was.
 
There are only two Sachs strut part numbers for the 124, AFAIK. 115-069 is the softer/Comfort version, 115-070 is the firmer/HD version.

I would add that when I had two previous 400Es I had to do some serious digging to identify the correct Sachs numbers. The application catalog was not accurate.
