200 cell high flow catalytic converter swap

Hello folks.

Anyone ever change to 200 cell higher flow catalytic converter?

Any issues with the stock sensors?

thank you.

On the 400E/500E, the O2 sensor is pre-cat... zero issues regardless if the cats are factory, aftermarket, race, or MIA.

This will only be a concern if the car has sensors post-cat, but with any catalyst at all the systems should work normally. Dunno if the post-cat sensors are unhappy if the cats fall off.

:wormhole:

Would you have a part number for these cats by any chance?
Sure do, but the part number is from the reseller for HJS cats in the U.S. - Fabspeed Motorsport. They are based out of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Fabspeed Motorsport welded on the end caps, as the HJS HD cats are no longer sold in the U.S. as full cats. Fabspeed Motorsport buys the cores directly from HJS and will weld on the end caps. These cats are directional, so when installing them, the arrow on the cats outside shell needs to point towards the rear of the car.

Btw, I got the cats 8 years ago, the pricing might be different now.

Also, if you want to get the part number HJS has, you could contact Fabspeed Motorsport, give them the part number from their invoice I attached and ask for the HJS part number. Then contact HJS and see what they charge for these cats with their end caps.

I’m running 200 cell cats from HJS (HD design) with a metal matrix. Also no issues with sensors and no check engine light. They are not cheap though, but are made extremely well.
got it. how do they make your car sound and perform? im thinking my 30 year OEM old cats need replacing. thanks

The cars sounds good, but I have a custom exhaust (dual exhaust from the exhaust manifold, 200 cell cats, 3” piping, custom X pipe, no resonator and dual custom mufflers), so there’s more than just cats replacement to create the overall sound. My butt dyno says the car feels a tad sharper, but I never tested the car with the factory exhaust and with the new exhaust to make a definitive call. One of the benefits I did get was the loss of about 60 lbs with the new exhaust.

Cold start, the attached file below.

Warm revs:

Take off:

At partial throttle, from about 50 feet away.

@szvook,
Your car sounds great. :thumbsup2: What about inside the car? Any drone?

I have the Renntech back box and took off my TimeValve Y-Pipe and replaced it w/ a SS Camero muffler to cut down the noise and droan at about 40 - 50 mph.

@yao500e,
I doubt that your CATs are bad. My 93 500E passes CA Smog every time w/ 143K+ :)miles. Glen’s “High Miler” passes CA Smog w/ 625K+ miles. :)

Note that CA does not require the roller under the back wheels. Some states require the roller in thier Smog Tests. Does Florida?

I have the complete Flieben system without cats. I had an X pipe welded in at the forward base of the cat delete setup but the note, while reduced by 50% is still too loud on acceleration. Can someone suggest a 2 in/2 out resonator or silencer that will quiet her down a bit more? I have some High Flow Cats (2 bullets) but they are not needed here in TX at the age of the car. (prefer the stock "seen, but not heard" note)
