Cheers all!

I'm just about done refinishing Carlsson 1/6 wheels, anyone with some pictures of what 275/35/18 tires look on 10" wide wheel please?

Regards,
D

Best picture I have.
Thanks Rick, exactly what I needed to see. I want to make sure that the tire does not look "too stretched". This is for SL500 project car, I can technically fit 285 tire in the rear, but that size is considerably more expensive, and it's a budget build, want to keep the rubber under $150 each...

Found another post that was helpful, https://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8604&page=3&p=163367&viewfull=1#post163367

I found that in my particular wheel and tire combination (18x8.5/18x10 SL600 2pc. BBS splits wrapped with Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2) the 245 front was too squared compared to the 275 rear. A friend of mine has the same wheels with the same brand tires with a 245/275 setup and I decided to go with 235/275 widths instead because it looks much better IMO. Maybe with a 9.5 wide rear rim the 245 front would look ok if you want a wider more squared look.

I would probably go that route as well, 235/275 for the sake of appearance, my current SL320 has what the factory was calling for, 245 in the front, looks a bit too square.

Be careful selecting tire size based on appearance. If the diameter / rolling circumference is more than 2-3% different front vs rear, you'll get issues with ABS, ASR, and cruise control. In general, you want 245/40/18 front with 275/35/18 rear. Next wider combo would be 255 front / 285 rear.

The SLs came with the 255 front / 285 rear. The rims on my 500E were take offs from the 2003 SL Launch Edition and that were the sizes of the Michelins. For the record I did drop down to the 245/275 combo Michelin Super Sports due to the un-sprung weight difference. If I remember it was around 2# on the 275s VS 285s. As far as appearance, the 245s/275s are only less that a 1/2" difference in width.

I gotta say that cheaping out on the tires does enhance the lousy ride effect. No offence intended here but personally, I don't know of a $150.00 tire I would want on any Benz. If I were you, I would be looking for some other place to save $$$ if you intend to keep the car.

Just my $0.02

Cheers and indeed appreciate the feedback!

Good point indeed, believe me, this is not just based on the appearance, and it should not be an issue on this car, as the overall diameter difference on the tires I've pre-selected (235/40/18 and 275/35/18) is negligible enough: 25.3" and 25.5", and if I was to choose a combo with 285/35/18 for the rear, I would probably stay with 245/40/18, diameters are 25.8" and 26.0"

I completely understand where you coming from in terms of cheaping out on the tires... I have used Sumitomo tire over the past 25+ years, and this car would probably get them again. HTR Z III are $145 rear and $120 front. It is 1995 R129 SL, so unlike the 2003+, if were equipped with 18" came with 245/40/18 and 275/35/18. But there is room to go a bit wider (with fender rolling)
