500E Interior Door Light Switch

Hello, this is my first post here, but i have always been silently learning from you.

I have tracked down the source of my problem to be the interior door light switch. Driver side.

When it´s installed properly, windows, sun roof, right mirror and electric seat adjustments will not work.

I have removed it from the door jamb and disconnected the 2 wires from it. Still nothing works.

When you connect the wires back on you can hear a click at the center console and everything works fine, as long as the little pin is not pressed, as when the door is open.

I have opened the switch, everything seems to be in there, the spring, the little metal ring, the pin and both connectors.

Is there a short circuit anywhere in the switch´s wires?

PS: Courtesy light on the door works fine, if you press the pin it goes out, if released, it goes on.

Just curious - have you checked all the fuses by physically removing them one at a time, cleaning the contact points, and making sure the fuse element is intact? Old fuses can get hairline cracks which are difficult to see, and/or get corrosion at the ends. Easy place to start before chasing down possible wiring issues...

:shocking:

Not yet.
Since it happened when opening or closing the door, i tought the wires were rubbing or stretching
so i removed the door panel.
Everything was ok.
When putting it all back togheter i saw the switch and pushed the pin. :?

Will check fuses tomorrow.

Cool.
Will check the diode as well.
Like the coleague in the other topic, i have power even with the key turned off.

Replaced all fuses.
Same problem.
Removed the courtesy lights from the doors as they were on all the time.
Now battery is dead.
Here we go again.

How many miles on this car and were they over rough roads? Have you personally changed out ignition tumbler with factory replacement? Is the ignition switch original? Do you have many keys on your key ring or just the one and a house key?

If you have power all the time, have you isolated the circuits by removing each fuse to see if the "lights" that are always on actually go out - starting with that particular number of items associated with that? You mentioned the fuses replaced, did you lift and replace all of the ice cube relays and such near the fire wall in the fuse box? If it is electrical (including the CAN box) lift out and reseat everything.

You did mention the switch on the door. Take the switch from the DS fender and swap it with the door in question, or one of the rear doors and see if that helps.:hugs:

Electrical gurus, this sounds to me like it could be caused by a faulty convenience module. Located under the back seat on the drivers side it controls many of these and when faulty they can cause erratic functions of circuits described. Easy to check with a spare.

A little over 100k miles.
Tumbler and switch are original.
Just the ignition key and a light leather keychain.

Just replaced ceramic fuses. I don´t have the replacements for the other ones yet.
Will try to at least disconect everything and check.

Will swap the door switch as well.

As soon as my battery is charged.

Will check that too.
I have no spares available.
Let´s see how that goes.
