500E Monoblock Wheels

Hello everyone,

I have a set of 18” Monoblock wheels for 500E. I have EVO wheels on mine currently and doesn’t seem that i will use them. I’m thinking about possibly putting them for sale. Some similar sets have sold on BAT for $3-4k. What would be a realistic value? Would it be worth selling even not using them or just keep? IMG_0471.jpeg

I'm in exactly the same situation. I've a set of 18" AMGs, which I've enjoyed running on my 500 for a couple of years. I thought they looked great - a friend of mine thinks they are "get out of the f........g way" wheels! However, I've now reverted to 17" EVOs, which offer a slightly better ride - and less "tramlining". So what to do with the AMGs? If I could off-load them for £3-4k, I'd be more than happy. If I recall correctly I paid around £2k for the set of 5 some 3 or so years ago!

If they continue to appreciate like that, then best hang on to them? Better than any stocks/shares!

Just keep. You'll get the money whenever you no longer own the car, IMO.

Thanks! it makes sense. I may just put new tires and change them out occasionally. I guess it’s a good problem to have. I do like the look and it could fill the tire well area better since they are 18s.

Agreed!! It got me thinking that way since they are taking space in the garage but I do like them and at least maybe worth running them for a bit on my 500e before deciding that way. Thank You!

Just for the record, my AMGs are non-staggered 9", ET 35. I ran them with 275x35 tyres and 15mm spacers. These were principally needed to avoid the front tyres rubbing the struts, but I fitted them on all four corners for visual "balance".

👀👀👀 ET47 Fits these cars??? Or are we talking some massive 20mm spacer and acting like that’s fine?

At those offsets, sell them. Some W220 4Matic needs them.

maw
My brother brought them with the car and I intended to change them up at some point but never got to it since I do like EVOs so I thought that they are for the 500E

I‘ve been meaning to mount them on my 500E and see how the fit but yet to get around to it. What do you think @gsxr ?
Ohhhhhh! Those are S-class (140 chassis) wheels with high offset. I'm not sure if they will clear the strut tube up front, and if so, they will look awful - tucked in way too far. You'll need a minimum 15mm hubcentric spacer, preferably 20mm front & rear (effective offset ET27), to look good.

From your first post, I thought you had a set of the staggered W210 E55 monoblocks, which are the ones that have sold for silly money on BaT. The 140-chassis wheels aren't worth quite as much and will need spacers. Depends if you want to mess with spacers.

Oh, also, your wheels have M14 lug bolt holes. You'll need hyrbid lug bolts with M12 shank and R14 ball seat. Length will depend on the type/style of spacer used. Don't use standard M12 lugs, the contact area will be tiny.

:tumble:

W140 wheels explains why they're not staggered. You might get good money from a W140 owner but I think that's about it. I can't think of anything else with that high an offset. Well at least nothing where these would be an upgrade. Some of the 65 series cars have high offsets but they're also staggered, larger and nicer (think 2-piece forged).

maw

Thank you!! I definitely need to get rid of them if that’s the case. They are taking space in my garage and it seems that I will never use them. I don’t like spacers and have never used them. Appreciate all the knowledge shared and support!!

Dave, is there a chart on this forum which shows which MB wheels will fit on a 500E? From time to time I see wheel sets and think about getting them for my car, but I would rather get ones that fit properly and don't need mods or spacers etc.

Jim,

No, there's no chart showing all MB wheels that fit on a 500E. This is partly because the word "fit" can have a wide interpretation by different people. I recall someone on a different forum (Ben's Whirled?) claiming that staggered 8.5" front and 10.0" rear wheels "fit" his stock S124 wagon, and had pictures to prove it. Yeah, they "fit" as in bolted on and the car would roll forward and backwards, if you didn't mind the rear wheels poking a couple inches outside the fenders... and the fronts rubbing when turning. Some people try to make too-wide wheels "fit" by installing drastically undersized tires, i.e. 30-50mm narrower section width. This is less than ideal for many reasons, but technically acceptable if the tire mfr approves a given tire size + wheel width.

Anyway: On the 500E, a VERY rough range of acceptable sizes are 8.0-8.5" up front, with offsets (ET) numbers between low 20's and mid-30's. In the rear, 8.0 to 10.0 with the same offset ballpark. You don't want anything narrower than the 8.0" stock wheels, and while you can go wider than 8.5 or 10.0 in the rear, this may require a specific offset and/or some fender lip rolling, plus a specific tire size and/or sidewall profile. Any wheels with offsets in the high 30's or 40+ either won't fit (touch strut tube or other hard parts), or won't look "right" without spacers... and you want to avoid spacers if possible. Most all 140-chassis wheels will NOT work well without spacers.

That said, it's a good idea to create a chart of wheels that are known-good fitments on the E500E: W210 monoblocks, any 8.25" Evos, any R129 wheels, and so on.

Also note that MB / AMG wheels designed for cars with M14 lug bolts, will require custom wheel bolts that have M12 thread with R14 ball seat.

Those are in Beirut, add $600 shipping to get them here... but they look nice! Zero mention if they were straightened or even checked for straightness. If located stateside I bet the bidding would have gone higher.

EDIT - as noted below by Drew, those were a set of four 8" wheels... I missed that part. Ooops.

Not the staggard 9s and 8s which most owners prefer also.
Good points... a little closer to home and staggered.

These sold for $3400 (!) plus fees. Interestingly, there were only 2 serious bidders and both wanted 'em pretty bad.
