Customer Reference 6-speed transmission

“I have converted my 230SL pagoda to the 6 speed gearbox because the old 4 speed transmission demanded such high RPM from the engine. I feared this may cause future issues for my SL and I wanted more out of the car. My local specialist installed the new 6-speed gearbox and it fitted perfectly. The installation was definitely worth it, driving the 230SL is really fun now! The engine now runs at an optimal speed range between 2000 and 4500 rpm. I will not reinstall the original gearbox for now and leave it in storage. Regards CLB”

The transmission is probably out of the E39 V8 cars (540i, M5) rather than the E46 (which only came in V6 straight 6). IIRC they were all Getrag units (Getrag 420G transmission - Wikipedia). Very stout, driver focused boxes — fun behind a V8. Completely transformed that SL. I’m loving all the bespoke monoblock wheels people are doing these days, like these (which were not AMG as stated) and the ones on the 300SEL restomod from Icon (Icon's LS9-Powered Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 Is a God-Tier Restomod).

Hopefully we see more such wheel shops pop up around the country. I’d have to imagine the forged aluminum billet isn’t the hard part there, as much as the machinery to laser cut it and recycle the excess.

When did they put a V6 in an E46?? The driven man uses tremec boxes. They have removable bell houses and the shifter can be relocated into multiple positions. I've been talking to them about putting a 5 speed in my 75 XJ12. I've not decided on the gearbox yet as I'm also considering swapping the rear end to a later model XJS rear end which uses outboard brakes. I have to figure out the ratios before I decide on the gearbox.

CNC machined to mate Mercedes 716.6 6 speed.
The bolt pattern is for M119 and M117.
This is from Kangaroo?

To be clear this would be for the M117.965/8 late 1985-1990 and early M119 or all M119??
