722.6 overfill?

I drained the pan and torque converter and let them drip until they stopped dripping (1 hour) then I filled 8.5L
The dip stick readings are hard to read. At operating temperature (long drive hit sustained 140km/hr) came back home parked then shifted through gears and did about 10 readings and it gave a blurry mess around the 80C mark sometimes about 1 mm under the 80C range section and sometimes a messy blur all over the 80C section or slightly over.
Next day at room temperature it read slightly above the 25C section about 1cm higher while the car was freshly started and running.
Am I overfilled?

If you only poured in 8.5L total it measured close to the 80C mark when hot it should be ok.

HOWEVER... did you drop the pan and change the filter? Or did you only drain and not drop the pan?

Dropped pan and changed filter as well. What's the capacity for my 1997 722.6? I was under the impression that it was 9L from a google search I did while filling it but now I'm seeing it's 8L so I feel like I might have messed up. Should I keep checking the fluid level after every drive until I get consistent results? My issue is that the dipstick sometimes comes out too messy to see a reading.

My 25C reading is above the 25C range section by a bit. Is that normal?

I open the fill hole and I gently guide it down until it hits the end then I do a little extra push to confirm and I pull it out slowly.

When I did this on my car with 772.6 and M119, I used 9.0 quarts / 8.5 liters, so you should be fine if you dropped the pan & changed the filter.

And it's a common problem to have difficulty reading the dipstick. You are using the "workshop tool" dipstick, correct? The 722.6 don't have permanent-mount dipsticks like the older mechanical transmissions.

Yes. I tried it again and it's consistently at the min line of 80C when hot and running through R-N-D-4321 a few times so I added about a sip worth more fluid and closed it and put in the tab.
