hi. i want to rebuild the transmission for my 1998 r129 v8, but don't know which transmission rebuild kit to get, all of them are 2mm thick. Does any one knows where to get proper size? what's the real size must be?

Your 1998 SL500 has the electronic 722.6 five-speed "NAG1" transmission. What is wrong with it, that you need to rebuild it?

This is a newer / different transmission than the older 4-speed mechanical trans used in the 500E. I have no idea what rebuild kit to recommend.

Pretty much all aftermarket frictions will be thinner than MB dealership supplied frictions.

Therefore I always order any transmission parts from my MB dealer.

if you are taking it apart do ensure all updated Sprags are replaced with genuine parts also.

tranny shakes a bit when shifting from park to drive.
Never heard of this fault before. Are you sure the engine and trans mounts are in good shape?

Any fault codes being logged on the transmission control module?

Fluid clean and to correct level when hot and measured with proper tool?

TCM checked for fluid ingress?

transmission fluid was on low. was tiny sound coming from the engine, than it became louder and when i finally identified what is this timing chain broke while cruising around 25mph. some intake valves bent, their lifters finished as well. didn't open to see what's going on with pistons, the engine cranks without chain. front timing chain covers small piece is gone, but the cover looks ok to be used again. no fault codes, only one which is airbag is off.
found that Mercedes tranny friction plates are 1.8mm thick and the one i got 2mm. hope it fits.
Can i use intake cams again or need to buy new?

I've never been inside the 722.6... maybe @JC220 can assist?

Hello guys i took my 97e420 engine out with the transmission to fix that head gasket leak and also have a leak on the transmission it is the pump seal do you have the service manual for 722.6?

There are not many leak points on the 722.6, so you'd have to give more details as to where it's leaking.

722.6 manuals & documentation are here:
http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/transmission/722.6/
It’s leaking on the front of the transmission where the big o-ring is at, im gonna change bith o-ring and the torque converter hub seal
I watch couple videos on YouTube it’s kind of complicated I will try to find someone who could do it for me

Thx for the link

Oh yeah - change both the O-ring and converter seal. You don't want to get the trans back in and have a leak! I haven't done this on a 722.6 but I thought it was easier than on the older transmissions.
