Question about EPC datacards and produced units

Hello guys,

I know that some members here have indirect access to the EPC and they are able to make queries to get the exact number of produced units - for example for all 202.033 models. I am also able to make those queries, but I am not sure, if my EPC data is correct.

To verify this, I went to C 200 Compressor | marsClassic and clicked on generel data. It says 12.344 units were produced and the type is 202.025.
However, when I search through all the data cards for all "202025" chassis, I only find 12,342 units. It looks like two units are missing.

I then checked all 202.024 and Mercedes says it should be 63,595 units: C 230 Compressor | marsClassic

Via an EPC query I only got 63,573 vin numbers.

I would like to ask if some people from this forum could also make this query to see if they get the same results as me. Or maybe I am doing something wrong or missing a table.

Thanks in advance & greetings from Germany!

I get the same numbers for both 202.024 and 202.025. Although that website is far better than any random production numbers seen online started by who knows who, I would still take it with a grain of salt as it isn't always the most accurate. I would consider looking directly at data with X number of VINs supersedes any other claim unless someone else with perhaps a more accurate version of EPC has done the same.

You might say there are a few missing VINs which can be the case as sometimes VINs are not even in EPC to begin with i.e. WDB1240361B490431 (at least on the version I use)

But there are also cases where there are more VINs than what that website shows. The production number for E50 AMG shows 2,960 but I queried 2,969 VINs (210.072 + 957).

I don't think there is one single source that is 100% accurate for all Mercedes cars ever produced. I like to think of it like a spectrum. EPC data is probably the most accurate. At least it's offers some basis compared to a number on a website.

Thank you very much for your answer! Interesting, I also don't find any datacard to the 124036 VIN number. Maybe I'll try to get an very old EPC version to compare the vin numbers. Maybe you can do me a favor and answer my last question - because I searched a lot but I didn't found the relation to it.

The datacard for WDB2020331F830623 shows "C 55 AMG". Do you know from which table this data comes from? I only found a table which shows 202.033 = C43 AMG but this looks like the name that is displayed while searching for parts. I think somewhere must be a relation between VIN and model number.

Thanks for your time and work!

Do let me know if you end up getting an older version! I would want to try out some VINs to see if they are present

I never bothered to solve that as the names aren't consistent. I would've guessed it comes from a combination of info like chassis code + engine as you see in the table you mentioned. But that VIN doesn't have an engine specified. Maybe some manually entered override value as I see there are additional notes added at the bottom too. I might give it an attempt as it looks like an interesting adventure to find cars like this.

I've got some news! I think the last available EPC offline version was from 2018. I've now installed an EPC from 2016 and I am able to get the datacard for WDB1240361B490431. I am also getting the two missing VINs from "202025". But I don't know why some VINs are missing in the 2018 version.

I've also figured out how the "C 55 AMG" model number is being displayed. In the table there is an "model_idx" column. I've found a "DC_MODEL_DESC" table in an another database, which makes the mapping between model_idx number and the model description. Here is an example for all 124036 model descriptions. Its very interesting to use it as an additional filter.

I am doing this research stuff for all 202 AMGs because I want to create a website with some rare informations. I only have one piece of missing data left. Some vehicles have an "Approx. Build Date" on the data card. For example, this one: Mercedes VIN Decoder | Decode Your Mercedes-Benz VIN

I am still trying to find out where you can get this information from, because I can only see the release and delivery date.

Do you have a link or a direction you can provide on how you got another version besides 2018?

I think that might be something LastVin.com came up with, for any missing entries in EPC, hence the name approximate.

My car (not a W202) has an approx. build date on lastvin too.

I have a 2nd decoded VIN - not sure where it came from, possibly mb.vin : VIN Decoder for Mercedes-Benz (def. not vindecoderz) which shows the Production Date as lastvin's delivery date so the data or field names from these decoders is not 100% consistent / reliable / accurate.

LastVIN:
Release Date 1998-03-09
Delivery Date 1998-03-11
Approx. Build Date 1998-02

2nd VIN decoder:
Production Date 1998-03-11

I will send you a private message.

The release and delivery dates are separate fields in EPC, so they should be accurate. I would love to use some data from VeDoc, but unfortunately I don't have access to it. However, I have already found some information in EPC that has never been posted anywhere. For example I found some 202 VINs that had an extra text in EPC. The extra text said these were test vehicles for a new AMG engine. But it wasn't a M104 or M113 engine. This was a pretty rare information for me, because I never heard of any AMG engine in a 202 chassis except M104 and M113.
It also describes which engine they tested, but I will save this information for me until my page is finished :D This page will be in english and german.
