This is footage of a 2023 EQS 580 with Active Driving Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist turned on.

The driver nodded off (unintentionally) but it appears none of the safety features kicked-in.

"This is dash cam footage from a 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 from February 2024. I was driving in the mid afternoon and fell asleep. I had the Active Driving Assist option turned on, as well as, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist turned on.
As you can see, these features did not prevent or alert me to the impending crash. As fate would have it or the Assist Options, the car missed a tree, a telephone pole, and an oncoming car before crashing into a stand of bamboo. The air bags did not deploy, and the bamboo brought the car to a gradual stop. I was completely protected from any injury. It did take the towing company 1 and ½ hours using two truck to extricate the car from the bamboo.
Sadly, the car’s battery did not survive the crash in an undamaged state, so the car was a total loss.
I decided to post this to help alert drivers to the fact that these package are far from fool proof.
As an aside, I was surprised that Mercedes-Benz showed no interest in looking into the crash and what it might have informed them about their safety freatures."
