'93 400E Lower Oil Pan Gasket and Engine Mount Question

Hey guys!

I have a 1993 400E with a slow engine oil leak coming from the lower oil pan gasket. I would like to know if I have to lift the engine to replace the lower oil pan gasket?

I also would like to replace the engine mounts. Do you prefer Febi/Bilstein or Lemforder brand?

Just finished the engine mount job. Go with Lemforder, and exercise plenty of patience. Are you sure the leak is from the gasket? You may want to just give an 1/8 turn in a criss-cross pattern. Oil leak may be coming from the O ring on the right side of the oil level sending unit, running down .

No, you do not.

While the lower pan is off, plan on also replacing the level sender O-ring to the block (very common leak) and probably the oil sump pickup as well. This has been discussed multiple times on the forum. It is not easy to get the lower pan completely leak-free.

Pan removed. Are these plastic pieces from the timing chain guides? There were more pieces from the oil pick screen that we removed. Vehicle has 186,656 miles.

Yep, pieces of chain rail, probably the top/center "fingered" bit between the sprockets. That sump pickup looks crushed, was the pan bent? The bottom should be pretty flat.

Yes, the old pan was bent so I replaced it. Unfortunately, I had no knowledge about what the oil sump pickup was suppose to look like so I left it as is.
