ACC Aspirator Fan Question

I'm speaking of the small blower that is located at the base of the right "A" pillar and is used to pull air from the overhead vent over the thermistor that monitors cabin air temperature.

I'm pretty sure mine, like most, is not working. I did the "Kleenex" test on the grille in the overhead vent and nothing, so I'm guessing it's not working.

My question is this:

Can you get to this fan by pulling the glove compartment or is it easier to access from below after removing the lower bolster from the dash? I've had these out before but I've forgotten how I got to them. For what it's worth, I know I've resurrected a couple of them in the past by just cleaning and lubricating them.

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

See my 124 ACC pod HOW-TO. As far as I know/remember, you have to remove the airbag to get to it. The pump is located in that little foam block just to the right of the airbag frame.

Thanks, Gerry.

I've gotten them out before, I just couldn't recall which way they came out. I've got an air bag, of course, so I'll pop that and see if I can get to it from there. Looking at your pictures reminds me that the last one I did I had to pop the vent tubing out to get to it as well.

The ones I've pulled in the past I was able to resurrect, but because they were in high mileage cars the brushes were pretty well gone. I'm going to retest things in my E420 and be absolutely sure I'm not getting any air flow before I go after it. Since I've got the upper console out with the headliner it's easy to get at the hose and do the Kleenex test there to be sure.

I'll do a DIY on it when I do. Thanks!

Dan
