It appears to be an additional magnetised ABC fluid filter setup pre the main ABC filter. Might be a good idea? Anyone running extra filters of any kind on their ABC system? My S600 is due a flush now shortly...… need filter(s)

Nope. I seem to get a blown line every 10,000 miles so my ABC fluid is always new.

I guess I am just lucky in that POs have shelled out for mostly new genuine ABC system in my S600 in recent years :yahoo:

It has 4x new looking struts, mostly new hoses including the bastard hose as it's coined at the front of the V12TT and a new ABC pump about 1 year ago. All genuine parts fitted at the dealer's. Struts alone were over £4k.

I also just fitted all 3x new genuine sensor links. Going to swap in a new part number / updated Front valve block now - (dropping after couple of days on front right), ABC fluid flush, filter and rodeo to keep it good!)

I guess extra filtration can only be a good thing. Having a clear glass visual on the fluid condition may be useful too. Or it's a waste of money

Mine were more to do with someone rear ending me than anything with the system. I would not waste time with it. Better to change the factory filter more often

Yes I suspect you are correct likely better changing the updated micron ABC filters more often

Wow, that's pretty sweet!

These have been around for a bit (at least 4-5 years). No one thinks they're a bad idea, although no mechanic I know has ever fitted one. I wonder what @jhodg5ck is seeing. I've been happy to keep the simplicity of swapping the factory micron filters more often. No one really thinks Pentosin goes off in 30k-50k miles, and there's no reason for me to think so either. So I've just skipped the extra part because more parts look like more complexity to me. And any non MB part on an MBSClass strikes me as a bad idea. So I trust the factory stuff, just not the factory "lifetime" guidance that came with it, and has since been unlearned (same as transmission fluid, so I treat them the same).

For reference, I've had my W220 S55 now for over 11 years and almost 100k miles, and have never had any real problem out of the system. Other than replacing fluid, filter and dampers when prudent (before they need it). I'm on my second set of dampers which probably go until 200k miles, which I question if I'll ever reach on this car. Parts will be NLA first most likely. Car holds pressure for weeks between drives most of the time, and when it doesn't it seems random. Maybe some sensor is on the way out at the struts, but no one expects those to last forever. When it becomes a clear identifiable problem, I'll likely just throw new struts at it (or even used OEM) and call it a day.

This filtration idea came about when people thought it was metal particles that fouls the pentosin. I don't know if people still think that, as opposed to heat cycling, hose liner, moisture, that type of thing (same as brake fluid or hydraulic fluid in other applications). So I don't know if the technical thinking behind the extra, nonOEM part still applies. Stainless steel ABC lines is probably a better "fix", but who wants the added weight? I've been waiting for a better pentosin or some other upgraded hydraulic fluid, but so far no dice.

My $.02... or maybe a nickel... or even double nickel (55).

@maw1124 if your car sags after a day or two occasionally then take a look at this

EDIT- Oops you had already seen this! Likely cause of dropping on one corner say after a day or two is the seals in the valve blocks FWIW

I understand. BTDT, years ago... probably replaced a block too soon, but oh well... cost of ownership.

The ABC struts all look new basically. As do nearly all of the ABC hoses and pump. In fact this S600 has a 2 inch service folder with it full of receipts! Long story short PO gave up when a missfire started and his MB indi couldn't diagnose it..... I bought the car cheap, got it brought over to NI from england and correctly diagnosed the left bank could pack. Got a rebuilt coil pack from v12icpack.com and the car is amazing!!

Really well maintained, totally original S600. Well optioned etc. 580hp 910nm V12 Bi Turbo rocket - one of the best £ per HP deals I'll likely ever get :cloud9:

I have already done quite alot of work to it. New engine mounts etc. New front brake discs and pads coming this week then replacement OE front wings and some bodywork needed and it's pretty much a completed really nice S600 thereafter

It also appears the values of AMG or LWB w220s / w215 CLs are starting to climb here. This is both good news and bad news. Good news for my S600 not so good news since I still hope to buy a CL500 or AMG Kompressor etc.

Yeah, they’re really amazing cars, which the general public is starting to discover now that they’ve reached “too good to be true” pricing. I recall telling @8899 last year that his W220 55 “was never going to be cheaper than it was right” then, which appears to be true. I think prices bottomed around 2017.

Yes, coil packs are the Achilles heel on the V12TT cars, in addition to ABC. ABC repairs are typically one and done. You’ll likely do repeated coil packs, unfortunately, and no one seems to know exactly why. MB finally got around to redoing the ignition system in the W222 65 cars, which seems to be holding up much better.

Cheers,

The same seller has these filters on amazon cheaper so I just went ahead and bought one

My S55 is going in next month for new engine/trans mounts, front discs and pads and a replacement thermostat. US$1,700.00 in labor...🤷‍♂️

Amazing car nonetheless!

Is that your Indy? Be glad those are not W221 AMG brakes. Ours are still reasonable. You’ll love the ride after the new mounts.
