Amazing 722.3 tranmission in action on a '95 C36

I gotta admit, I am in the planning on doing an 8hp45 transmission swap on my '95 C36....
However, when I see this video and the performance of a 722.3, it also encourages me to just refresh, clean up and possibly rebuild if necessary the 722.3 and enjoy it for few more years. Perhaps new k2 piston, new vacuum modulator, redo all the seals, clean up the valve body and the 722.3 would be performing in top shape for a few more years....

It is a cool notion that this 722.3 is mechanical and no TCU which is a marvel of engineering!

This guy in lebanon has a great time flying around in his C36 4 speed!

No b/c its a mercedes... but also, the left lane is reserved for crimes and looks like busines is good
I wonder which part of Lebanon. Lebanon was once the "France and Italy" is the middle east.

I used to live in Lebanon and took this road on my daily commute. The video you posted above is only half of the highway. The best part is the top half of the highway where it gets very twisty. See this video from the same guy with less traffic (and him making a few... mistakes): Full Run
@gsxr They sometimes had mobile speed traps on the bridge at 4:37, so you had to keep it under 100 km/h there. Otherwise, you can do as you please since there's nowhere for a police car to hide and set up a speed trap.

I honestly love how quickly the 4 speed in my 500E gets into gear with my moving the handle.

Only thing I don’t love about the 4 speed is it not having an extra over drive gear for lower cruising rpm’s lol
I wish Mercedes made the 4th gear 0.83 or 0.74 so we get that benefit of overdrive.
The ZF 4hp 4 speed transmission did that for their 4 speed automatic. too bad for us.

really amazing how this guy drives his C36 4 speed auto like that! really reviews my confidence in the 722.3 :)

How much fuel would you really be able to save on an older platform?

The improvement in fuel economy isn't much. Probably <10%?

The reduced RPM's are nice for high speed cruising, if you live somewhere that allows this. A stock E500E cruising at 88mph (on freeways with an 80-85mph speed limit) is turning ~3400rpm, which is kinda high. The 5th gear overdrive of the 722.6 would drop this to 2800rpm. At lower speeds it's not really a big deal.

Autobahn cruising at 130mph (210kph) would be 5000rpm in a stock 036, but only 4100rpm with the overdrive.

I’m not sure how much this turns out to percent wise on mpgs…

“722.351, 1 and two lil short for my liking, but car very quick. but I love the feel. 3,4,5,6. Sweet. I kept the 2.82 rear. Rode to Georgia from NC last weekend there and back only 3/4 tank used, no fill up! And I was riding through town. That 6 gear on highway at 80 is at 2200rpm.”
