AMG Aero I pre-merger, white color

Did AMG ever paint the AMG Aero 1 wheels white? I just got my hands on a set, ET28, production year 1987. They’ve been rattle-canned black, but the black paint is coming off when pressure washed. Underneath, they appear to be white.
Does anyone know the history of the Aero 1s?
