Can anyone post a picture of -

500E with Mono II 18 x 8 and 9 ( ET31 and 35)

and 18 x 8 front and rear (ET31)

Thanks

KJ

You ought to be able to see some photos of my car with mine on my PWNER - gerryvz thread.

Here is my setup (18x8, 18x9, 15mm spacers all the way around, #1 pads)

Sorry but I can't figure out why the pics are rotated, and they look stretched too. PM me your email and I'm happy to forward...

Thanks Tanger, I was able to save and rotate. Just what I wanted. Are these staggered the extra inch on the outside rear lip, difficult to tell from the photos. How is the ride with the 18's?

KJ

The rears are wider, but I don't think the lip is deeper.

I also have a set of 19" Brabus mono IIIs, but never put them on after I got them refinished because the ride is too stiff. The 18s are much better for the crappy LA roads i drive on. Would be great to get the ride even more compliant w coil overs or some other susp upgrade, but keeping it stock for now.

Are 17" Monoblocks out of style? I want to put either 17" aero I or Aero II monoblocks on my poor man's 500E beater.
I have heard opionions that 17" rims are nicer than 16 but that they keep you wanting just a little more, like 18" rims.
I do like the way 18" rims look on a car, but not sure of the ride. I live in san diego where the roads are no better that LA roads.

Monoblocks out of style, never - that is a timeless style. Now, whether they are fashionable or not by today's "standards" is debatable, but as you know, fashion is short lived and style is forever.

As far as 17" vs. 18" wheels on the 036, I do not see 17" being too small or wanting 18" wheels instead, I like the way 17" wheels look and perform. On bad roads, I would rather have a bit more tire profile than not and since I track my car, the 17" wheels are better suited for the track. That, and since my wheels are not cheap, I can drive safely on bad roads and not worry if my wheels are ok. Maybe if I was a millionaire, than I would be ok dropping over a brand for a new wheel, but since I have 3 piece wheels, only the barrel(s) would need replacement and last time I checked, one side of the barrel from HRE is $350, but at least its not $1.25K to replace the whole wheel.

I think the AMG II's are the perfect look for the 500E. The first upgrade planned for my 500E.

AMG Monoblocks are a great classic look just keep on mind they are very heavy

17 vs 18 vs 19 a never-ending debate

18" are the perfect fit. I tried some 17" three piece AMG's. While nice wheels, they just looked too small to me (part of that probably due to the multi-piece design). If 19" monoblocks were a bit more common and not S Class specific, I might of went that direction. Hard to argue with a 18x10 in the rear and a 274/35/18 tire ;-)

I couldn't agree more. I just took the 17" monoblocks off of my E500 (put them on the wagon and they actually look pretty good compared to the 16" bottle caps) and replaced them with some staggered E55 18" monoblocks which I picked up for a good price on CL. They just provide a bit more of an aggressive stance, IMO.

IF you can find them, figure $2500-3500. Finding them is the hard part. If I remember correctly, new they were something like $1600 each
Yeah, these tend to be stupid expensive, which is a shame, as I really like them, and they are the perfect width/offset for a staggered setup on the 500E. I've seen one or two sets under $1k/set from people who didn't know what they had, but it was always on some faraway Craigslist ad and usually sold already. These wheels aren't as light as I'd like (MB specs indicate 28+ lbs!) but they sure look sweet.

Ouch on the heavy side, my new to me 18" x 8.5" AMG Aero II are forged and said to be 24lbs

I've never been able to confirm the weights of the 2-pc wheels discussed above, but the MB specs (which are usually at least roughly accurate) point to something in the 28-30 lb range. Very porky. This isn't an issue unless you are a performance nut and/or sensitive enough to notice significant changes in unsprung weight (this affects steering feel, road imperfection reaction, etc).

Karl, have you put your new wheels on a digital postal/refrigerant scale? It would be interesting to see what the actual weight is. You can check the weight of your DW's too (they can be a pound or two different from spec).

I am considering a cash plus trade for a set of 18" AMG two peice wheels like the ones 2phast has on his pic (except these are silver). They have good tires two. Guy wants my c36 amg set (which don't have good tires) + $1200 for hit 18" AMGs and good tires. I know deals are wht two people agree on. But what are your thoughts? Is this a good deal or not. My C36 17" amgs are in good but not great condition. Any mathematicians/snake oil salesman/bottom feeders that can do the math for me? Thanks
