I just ordered the replacements from my dealer but i want to do this myself.

Does the door panel have to come off? Any links or DIY will be much appreciated.

Remove triangle trim as shown here. Then remove the 3 screws which attach the mirror to the door. Break the old rubber boot off the mirror in pieces, then stretch the new boot in place. It is NOT fun installing the new ones, btw.

:wormhole:

I did this job on my previous 93. Make sure the new rubbers are warm. I put them in warm water on the advice of someone here on the board. It worked nicely. Dry them prior to installation..

thanks guys i will use a warm heat gun to soften them up, are these painted at the factory or they came black? what caused them to crack to badly?

So im glad the entire door panel doesnt need to be removed, if the car was new i would not care much to yank on stuff since the parts would be plentiful i just want to take precautions on this car.

I had both of mine (passenger and driver side) replaced and they were soft enough to use without submerging them in warm water.

They come black from the factory and the wear is just old rubber siting in the sun.

They are black, not painted. DO NOT paint them. MB changed the material used somewhere during W124 production and the later models all have this severe cracking problem.

It was really nice that MB has more than doubled the price of new rubbers from ~$75/ea to about ~$150ea... NOT.

Anyone noticed that its the left side that deteriorate the most while right side is fine on most cars.
