As the title states. Has anyone ever had an out of round and some other issue with a front wheel hub?

That is almost unheard of, but not impossible. Have any deets to share?

:pc1:

You are still chasing your elusive and intermittent front end vibration?
I'm thinking of getting to it 🙂. I had my tires rebalanced recently and was pointed at a loose front wheel bearing on the driver side. Thing is, the same was pointed out to me a few years back and I thought I took care of it. I had remeasured by bearings at least 4 times, but! My dial gauge is electronic, and while it may sound as an upgrade, it actually sucks. It doesn't zero out properly on its own. So I purchased an analog one, that's made in Japan and plan to recheck bearings along with wheel hubs using it.

Remember that the wheel bearings are supposed to have detectable end play. When adjusting you aim for 0.01-0.02mm (which is pretty snug) but the allowable spec is up to 0.05mm. Anywhere in the 0.01-0.05 range is acceptable and should not affect vibrations; those are more likely to be wheel/tire related - just ask @Jlaa.

If you are still chasing vibes, I think it would be a good idea to get that vibration analysis tool we talked about last year because it will help you characterize the vibe - the amplitude and, importantly, if it occurs with wheel speed, 2x wheel speed, stronger on left side or stronger on right side, etc.

What roadforce balance numbers did you get w your recent wheel balance?

BTW when clamping the balljoints on the outer or inner tie rods with bigass channel locks, do you get any play? Like even 1mm of play?

Yeah, that app has been crossing my mind. I want to change the spring, and check loose bearing and check and measure runout on brakes and hubs to baseline the car, before troubleshooting though the app with your generous help!

Local Firestone's Hunter road force machine was down, since the was no wait, I let them check wheels with regular Hunter machine. I don't really suspect them as they are new Mercedes 8 hole types with new Continental extreme contact dws06, that were mounted and balanced at the dealer last year in spring. And, the issue was there with old, original factory wheels with new Micheline crossclimate+ tires. I do remember that for you it was the tires as the cause, and I will have mine roadforced after the car is back on the road, but my mind (likely foolishly) is bending towards bearings/hubs/brakes area. There's a 50% chance I'm right 😁.

I haven't done this yet, but all steering links and idler arm were done at the same time 3 years/30k mi ago. But I will, thanks for the pointer!

My vibe issue was a combination of tires and 1mm play in the channel lock squeeze test in the passenger outer tie rod end which was supposedly replaced 20k miles / 8 yrs ago. No lateral movement in the tie rod end.

I remember I should buy appropriate pliers for this test. Thanks!
