Bad cop. No donut!

Ironic that just as his music proclaims they're "Living young, and wild, and free." that he be stopped by the police. :p

Thought this comment was interesting… sounds like an actual GOOD cop:

“Good day Omar ! Sorry to hear about your situation. I am a 20 year officer and I would have NEVER done something like this. The stop was complete bullcrap and this could have escalated into something much worse. Being stopped in the middle of roadway is NEVER safe and you could have been rear ended. We get rear ended all the time when we are stopped with our emergency lights activated. Based on the video you it's my opinion there is no violation of tailgating. Notice on the right hand of your screen there is a parked Ford Expedition. (This was most likely addressed in previous posts). Pause the video when you see this to get a reference of the distance in relation to the patrol unit. You are about two car lengths at this moment until he brake checks you. It's idiots like this that give us hard working officers a bad name. Fight this and if the court sides with the officer appeal it. The District Attorney's Office should dismiss this case in the interest of justice before the court date if they are smart. Omar you were a complete gentleman throughout the contact and I commend you for that ! Don't let this ASS be a representation of police officers in the US. The one thing I tell ALL my trainees is to never take it personal when someone is being verbally abusive and ALWAYS be polite and professional. I say we will most likely never see these people again, but their experience with us will be the topic of many conversations in years ahead. I always say give the citizen something good to talk about and gain their trust as a result. We can't please everyone, but we can show a degree of empathy even when inside we are not feeling it. Its called customer service....Good luck on the fight and keep us posted...”

This is why I, too, have a dash cam on one of my cars.

Need to buy several more.

Any recommendations for a dash cam? I've been meaning to get one for a while. But I don't want to spend a lot and the reviews for all the cheaper ones are pretty bad. Maybe that's just a sign I should spring for a good one I guess.

I still think he was tailgating, yes the cop shouldn't have brake checked him (really stupid), both were to blame. Hope to see the court follow up.

The wide angle lens of the dashcam makes it hard to tell how closely he was following. In general it looked like he was ~2 seconds behind which would be a reasonable distance. I'm also curious if the patrol car was going below the speed limit - no speed limit signs were visible. Court date is a week away, I think?

:pc1:
