Barrel lock plastic trim (Ignition tumbler bezel)

I'd like to replace the plastic trim that surrounds the barrel lock - see picture, p/n 125. As per EPC copy I have it should be A1246800865 (for cars with adjustable steering column) however the parts supplier I'm intending to use says that part number is not recognized? I can google it and it returns proper part picture I think. Was it replaced with different number? Any help would be much appreciated.

AFAIK, this part is NLA new, and has been replaced/superceded by 124-680-00-65 which required modification to fit (cutting the zig-zag slot in the plastic).

Thanks for the info. Do you have a picture of this modification that needs to be done? Is it farily easy and can be done with Dremel tool and steady hand???

No, sorry, I don't have photos... never done this mod. If you Google for some pictures of each you should be able to see the difference. Dremel is the only way I can think of to cut the new slot. Or, locate a good used piece instead.

I googled the number A12406800865 and the only one "different" part picture I found was the one attached below. Is this the slot you are talking about? It's doable but to be honest I would attempt to do it only if the slot remains hidden. I don't recall seeing it in my car unless my part have been already replaced with updated one?

These are hyper-common as used OE parts in the wrecking yards on 124s, and are almost ALWAYS available on any later 124. I'd just get a used one. I bet captruff or David Hendy have one to spare. I have one, but it's for my permanent hoard.

I have two of the longer piece on the other side of the steering wheel, and I'd let one go, but alas ... it's not the droid you're looking for.

Gerry you are right, this part is very common. I had a look at several available locally but they all had the same signs of wear from years of turning the key etc. For EUR 14 I'll take a chance and get new one to modify it. If I fail - no big deal, I still have my (not so bad) used one.

For those who will ever do this in the future - the task is easy and takes approx. 15 minutes. The cut doesn't have to be super pretty as it all hides under the column trim however the cutout dimensions have to be pretty accurate, otherwise the column trim clips will not fit. The only surprise is the thickness of the new part - it's almost twice as thick as the old one but the plastic is very easy to cut, both with Dremel and utility knife. It is necessary to remove some material on the back of the bezel so the steering column trim clips can slide in (thicker part again) - I pointed them on the pics.

I used a pencil grinder from H-F. It had an 1/8 shank straight flanked cutter. Drilled the corners.. sharpie the outline and then go.
