However in terms of drivability, it just doesnt come close to the feeling, power and acceleration of the w210 E50.

I assumed since both have M119 motors it would be close and similar. I cant put my finger on why. Its probably the ECU tune 722.3 transmission vs 722.6 transmission and 3.07 rear gears of the w210 e50. The explosion off the line is massive on the E50!
yao500e - does your 500E have first gear start? That makes a huge difference. The minor difference in rear axle ratio does help the E50 a little though.
