Radio in my recently acquired '92 500E only played on one side and had static, too. I thought it could be an amp and was trying to swap them to check but then the radio in dash refused to accept code input, so I could never get it going to check the amps.
JG Francis of Mercedes Motoring suggested that I send it to Hernan at German Auto Radio Repair (818-769-8919; 10544 Victory Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91606). Hernan had a two day turnaround and called me when he was shipping it back to explain the repairs: Dash radio motherboard was replaced and both amps. One amp was bad but he recommended renewing both in case the good one was on its last legs. I reinstalled everything last night and it works and sounds great. His prices look very similar to a little less than on the Becker repair site. I have no affiliation but thought the community would like to know about this business.
