Would 95 e 320 speakers work in the 93 500e?
What is an upgrade to the 93 speakers that would work with the stock Becker unit ?
Also, CD worked and now doesn’t and just emits a tone. Flatline.
Not a technophile so appreciate any feedback with patience.

I think they are different part numbers between the 91-93 (1432 system) and 94-95 (1492 system). Depends which specific speakers you are looking at, AND also if the E320 had optional "Sound System" or not.

Some people replace the dash speakers with 120mm coaxials. This may or may not improve the sound quality with an otherwise stock system, as the front dash speakers are impedance-matched to the doors, and aftermarket speakers of different impedance will also change the level between dash & door. You can experiment and see if you like it. Search the forum for "Rainbow" front speakers or similar European-sized 120mm. Don't try to use American sizes (4.0, 4.5, 5.25", etc)... they won't fit properly.

Probably need to send everything to Becker and pray they can fix it, AND actually test the stuff before they ship it back. Some people have reported receiving DOA repairs from Becker and having to return multiple times without so much as an apology for their error. Hopefully that's an anomaly.

Thanks to member “ northNH”for the replacement speakers for my 1993 500e.
Installed the left door speaker and the “ crackling” on bass and sharper notes all gone!
Be rocking and thanks very much to northNH and the Board!

I don’t even know if I belong in this sport anymore because I don’t have either of my 1994 E500 any more but of all the cars I’ve owned it’ I missed them the most .

Currently, I’m redoing the audio system in my fifth Tesla 2023 model X. Let me tell you how I long for just the problem of how to get good low base in a W124 the OEM integration issues with the Tesla’s are just beyond worth dealing with.

There’s so much audio pain there that I’ve actually decided to devise a kit that installs quickly and easily and gives you audio file grade sound with a preset DSP, amplifiers that are matched within 1000 of a volt to the X max measured on each speaker with a laser vibrometer. And that will be matched to a given amplifiers output voltage to 1000 of a volt.

They’re not a lot of cars that are identical, but the 500E/E500 interior wise pretty much is exactly acoustically the same.

Anyhow, my recommendation is the scan speak 12M with the Jehnert doorboards is the same . If you desire to fit them underneath the factory grills and maintain basically a factory appearance, with exception of having a different speaker Grill material ( speaker grill cloth material ) on the front map pockets. That will keep your car looking extremely stock.

You’ll have plenty of output because it’s a 2 ohm impedance.

If you wanna go the extra 9 yards I would say use the scan speak d2004 in a custom sail panel , and add a SB Acoustics SW26DAC76-8 8 ohm ( higher damping factor and amp will run cooler ) flat woofer under the front passenger foot well by taking a mold of that foot well using a ultraviolet scanner, and then fabricating a mold that will fit exactly the same way that filler is used in the floorboards.

Modern technology in front subs will give you a lot more impact upfront. You’ll also benefit from running shorter cabling throughout the car.

I have been tuning cars now and winning competitions and I can still tell you that that era of Mercedes has some of the best acoustics. It’s worth the trouble and you can do it and still be able to return the car completely to stock.
