Brabus Monoblock V - 19"

Hello all,

Despite my plans to leave the E500 stock, I'm going for aftermarket rims and probably the Supersprint rear resonator and backbox exhaust. In my opinion these are reversible mods and the original EVO II rims and OEM exhaust will stay with me.

Anyway, I've been offered a set of Brabus Monoblock, 8.5J front, 9.5J rear, 19". Offset is ET35.

Does anyone know the suitable tyre size for this setup? Guys, Dubai roads are great and I prefer 19s to 18s so pls no 18 vs 19 discussion.

Cheers

I've done some research, it seems the following fit well - do these sound about right?

F: 245/35/19
R: 275/30/19

I assume one larger would also fit but I'm comfortable with a 245/275 setup. Given the EVO IIs are ET34, I assume I'll have no issues with ET35.

I was going to keep my car stock also, but I decided to put aftermarket wheels and Fox exhaust (and y-pipe) on my car. Anything that's a bolt-on with no mods to the car I decided I was good with, while keeping original parts, which will likely go back on if I ever sell the car.

I have stored in my basement the 17" AMG Monoblocks the car came with from AMG and I will also keep/store the original exhaust system. I had also talked too the guys at Supersprint and that seemed like a great option for exhaust also.

The wheels I have on my car ow are OZ Opera II and the sizes are:

Fronts: 18 x 8.5 ET 20 Tires: 245/40 R18
Rears: 18 x 10 ET 30 Tires: 285/35 R18

There is no rubbing etc., everything fits fine.
The FOX exhaust is going on as I write this and I'll pick he car up tomorrow.

Great stuff. Fox is a great choice. I ran it with both Y pipe and resonator on my old 500E. Proper loud with the Y pipe but I was also decatted.

I love the look of the oval tips for the Supersprint so that swayed it. Only recently found out they make exhaust for E500, normally see supersprint on BMW M cars.

Out of curiosity.... does your cruise control work?
I thought that in order to keep the ASR happy wrt letting cruise control work, the difference between the F/R tire sizes had to be kept to an absolute minimum, meaning 245/275 or 255/285 but not 245/285 for F/R in the 18” size.... I vaguely remember reading something about this from either @Klink or @gsxr....

Supersprint is a great choice also. They used to make exhausts for some of the earlier AMG models and others. I bought new AMG exhaust tips and they are being put on the Fox muffler. Good to hear that you had some experience with Fox also.

The Supersprint guys were very helpful and I believe they have an excellent product and a great look. I was looking for a bit more of a "burble" out of my exhaust (kind of like my old C43 - that was possible), and the Supersprint guys were very honest and told me that their exhaust would probably not achieve that kind of "burble"....however I realized after, I probably could have put a Fox y-pipe and combined it with Supersprint final exhaust (all bolt ons) and maybe gotten closer the sound I wanted - I simply don't know.

I got quite a bit of help from @JC220 and @Rockymtn400e who both had Fox systems on their cars, so I got to hear the sound clips, so I think I will know how the car will sound, but I'll know for sure tomorrow.

I also got a lot of help from @gsxr. I was being a bit too conservative about some bolt on mods (exhaust being one) and realized with @gsxr 's help that they were not really a big deal and were easily reversed, so that got me going.

Hi @Jlaa .....ha ha, I feel like a bit of a dope, I think I remember reading that, but forgot all about it. I never use cruise control on any of my cars except my BMW on long drives (since it has distance control), so I don't know.

I'll check it out on my car this week sometime after I get it back tomorrow.

I also love the AMG exhaust tips, did you install the oval or square ones? Since I'm likely to have brabus alloys, I'm gonna stick with the supersprint tips and not AMG. Now to order the exhaust and get it shipped to the UAE...

I bought these (rectangular - pic enclosed). I am waiting to see how it all comes out (sound and look) tomorrow.
I am *way* overdue in updating my owner thread so once I get the car back I will upload pics and ideally sound clip, as well as update all the maintenance work @jhodg5ck and his team did when I brought the car into the U.S.

This is correct. Cruise control, ABS, and ASR get unhappy when the F/R diameters are not close enough. Under ~2% is usually fine. I learned the hard way that 4% or more will not allow cruise to function over something like 35mph. And if the rear tires are smaller diameter, ASR can get upset about it.

Definitely check the diameters BEFORE ordering tires. Select tire size based on matching diameters, not what you think will look cool...

ok, this is clearly a "fail" on my part.
thx @gsxr is there any probability that actually trying to use the cruise control with my set-up will cause any damage to anything (sensors or shorting something or ASR system)?
If I don't use cruise control at all is there any potential harm in this set-up?

I am not a fan of those monoblock V wheels. Quality was terrible (clear coat disaster, air leaks)
Bilal remembers I had these on the Baron. Lots of people like them more than the sambosak wheel, but these Monoblock II are better quality an fit perfectly with spacers, even has TUV for the E500

Yes Ahmed I do recall, actually found some photos of yours when looking around this evening, personally they looked great on your car! One of the better looking wheels for the E500 and more importantly does a good job of filling those arches out. I've seen lots of used ones with clear coat issues, did not know about the air leaks but the set I'm buying does have a 1yr warranty so hopefully they'll be OK. Monoblock II's need quite a special car to pull them off!

Exceptional wheels for Exceptional cars ;)
Careful with the barrel lip on those Mono V, they are quite thin and not forged. The Mono IV it came with from Germany had the same issue.

For cruise control, the only issue is it won't work over a certain speed, if the F/R diameters are over ~4% different. No damage to anything, cruise simply won't engage.

The bigger concern is how it will affect ABS or ASR. I know from experience that if the rear tires are significantly smaller diameter, ASR may engage when it shouldn't, because the ASR computer sees the rear wheels spinning faster and thinks they have lost traction. If you err on the opposite side (rears larger), this shouldn't be as much of a concern.

I'm not sure how ABS is affected, I've never done any testing.

In general I recommend trying to stay close to the ~2% difference if possible, and if pushing the 2%+ limit, have the rears larger, not smaller.

Thanks @gsxr, that is quite helpful. I don't use cruise control so I am good there. My rears are larger so I should be ok with ASR.

p.s. my new ASR defeat set-up:

I just checked your sizes. They are <1% different, you are AOK:

Guys, back into this topic, agreed a deal on those rims, Brabus Monoblock 19s , 245/35/19 front tyres & 275/30/19 rear tyres. Dunlop to be fitted instead of Michelin as they're half the cost and my E500 sees very little mileage. Very excited to have this setup on my E500 :) now....for the exhaust...
