Brake pad grease - what's recommended?

This is like an oil thread but runs higher temps!!

What brake smoo do you use and does it last long? Eg could you stretch it 2 years on a second car not covering many miles and still have lubricity in there?

Ceramic? Copper slip? Does copper slip affect ABS to any real degree? Do MB make the ultimate brew?

I have pretty much all of them.... not fully decided yet on which one really lasts or works the best. Leaning towards copper grease on the older cast iron calipers. And ceramic or MB brake grease on aluminium Brembos etc

No 0w20 plz.

I ask this as I have ALOT of brake jobs to catch up on now in the coming weeks. A mix of new discs and pads VS stripping and lubricating cars that have covered little to no miles for years. This includes brake fluid flushes FWIW. Yes your brake fluid requires regular changing also!

I have always used Textar Ceratec on my Volkswagen and I've used it twice on my 500E and I have zero complaints. For brake fluid I use Bosch DOT 4 or Textar DOT 4.

0W-16 FTW!! :ROFLMAO:

I've used the OE MB brake smoo in the past, which looks an awful lot like normal silver anti-seize. It's not cheap and the brush never seems to go to the bottom of the bottle, which always irritates me. I seriously doubt copper or ceramic will make any difference for anti-squeal and general lube; but if you are concerned about corrosion (which seems excessive where you live), that's a difference scenario.

Anyway, I heard all the best MB techs have Ate Plastilube in their toolbox... bought some but haven't tried it out yet:

Textar do make high quality stuff I'll look into that!

My choice of brake fluid:

Yes corrosion is a constant battle here hence the copper grease. The MB stuff is nice too and I like the little brush in the bottle. That jar goes a long way had it for years now.

There are debates about whether copper grease can impact ABS sensors in modern vehicles but I've never experienced this myself.

For pins I like the Ceratec which is clear / amber colour and spreads easily.

A tube of the Mercedes grease that's infused with unicorn tears is about $USD 15 or thereabouts. I have one that's been around for easily 6-8 years and there's still plenty in it. I just used it last Sunday when my youngest did the rear rotors and pads on his 2002 E320.

And for what it's worth, if you buy pads at the dealership they are supposed to give you a couple of packets of the stuff with the pads. If they don't - ask for it. The EPC calls it out with the pad part number.
