After discovering a broken vacuum line a couple of days ago, gvxr and Gerryvz helped me by directing me toward information that will help.

As a reminder, this photo shows the original broken line.

After fishing under the p/s distributor and moving the coolant reservoir out of the way, this is what I found...

There are three lines here, and two of them are accounted for, one being the broken line I originally discovered.

After doing some research, I found a schematic that I believe describes what I am seeing...

It's the top diagram that I'm referring to since my car is a 1994 E420...

So there is a third line, and it too is broken.

There are two fittings in this following photo. One appears to be for 33.06 (EVS, AIR), and the other 33.01 (EVS, EGR). It looks like the line from the EVS, AIR goes to the 9.17 (Air Shut Off Valve) on the 9.14 (Air Pump with Integrated Filter)

I apologize if the explanation is confusing, but does this make sense?

Rob

Those diagrams are correct, if yours is missing above the driver's headlight.

The clear/purple tube is the broken vacuum feed to the pair of solenoids. Then each has a two-color-stripe tube back to the air pump valve (purple/blue) and EGR valve (purple/brown).

If you wanted to order new correct-color tubingl the EGR clear/purple/brown 000-158-96-35 is NLA. However, the clear/purple/blue 000-158-99-35 might be available, but you'd need to contact a live person at a dealership/MBCC to verify. The RevParts sites are showing Discontinued but MBCC says it's available.

The vac line goes to 9.14 which is a vacuum shutoff valve.

9.17 is the belt-driven air pump, shown for reference in the diagram.

What made this a little more difficult is that work has been done on these lines prior to my ownership, and different colors were used, either from lack of correct colors, or the repairer chose not to use them.

Knowing I would need something, I went to the Mercedes dealer yesterday, and all they could come up with was about 18" of unstriped line, plus about the same length of the rubber hose for connecting.

Now that you've provided part numbers, I might be able to find actual striped line. I have a choice of about 5 MB dealerships with 30 minutes drive. Who knows what they might have.

Just to clarify your statement about "missing above the Driver's headlight", do you mean the diagram? And not a vacuum line? Sorry if it's a silly question. 🤔

See below for a list of the part numbers... keep in mind that several may be NLA. Plain clear/transparent is easily available both OE and aftermarket, but all the "colors/stripes" will be dealer-only items.

And yes, I mean the silver vacuum-system decal should be applied above the driver headlight, see attached photo. Just like the yellow emissions decal should be above the passenger headlight. If both of these are missing, the car was likely in a front-end accident in the past.

Very helpful, gsxr, thank you.

I did find the decals above the headlights that you referred to. I have so much to learn.

I'll take this list to the dealers I'll visit today to see what logic I can use to put together a completed system.

I'm wondering if fixing these lines will finally smooth out the engine.
