Gents, what rack and pinion options should one consider? I've heard one from a W210, a 2012 Chevy Impala, and a Prius, are all an option.

I don't think there will be many members here who have done a rack and pinion swap. I am interested myself as I will probably be going one on a 124 at some point to allow a larger engine.

I see there is a youtube video here and a series someone has done on w210 rack into a w124 have you seen this yet-

@jcc220 yes, I watched those. Great guide. I was told the w210 rack might be a bit too wide in order to replicate the factory turning radius but my source wasn't sure. I'm going to reach out to Bicylindrico, who made that YouTube video, and get his feedback.

In my opinion, a R&P retrofit would ONLY make sense if fitting a more modern engine into the bay in place of the E500E's M119. Say, an M113 or M157. Not sure you could get an M156 in there....but possibly.

I don't think I can recall anyone ever putting an R&P setup into a W124, but the @gsxr may know for sure.

I think only a handful have been done... if that many. And yes, it was to provide clearance for a newer engine.

We will be going through the geometry aspect of using the W210 rack next week. I want to see if we can retain the factory turning radius and no bump steer. If the math does not work, I will build a custom rack that mimics all factory characteristics, while also providing a more precise steering feel since its a rack.
