As I was watching the 500e500 on the lift, the guy Victor who has made some clips, Mercedes something on the tube.
Now there was something said, and I am not sure he was right? first, he did overlooked the fact the car had a rebuilt
factory Exchange trm even though he showed the MB plate, saying Tauschaggregat.

Now the other "thing" was some rattle or ticking from the top end, he talked about a revised chain tensioner and suspected
that was the source for the noice, not the evidently lifter clatter, and there I was thinking, was he not talking about the
oil filter backflow checkvalve, or should have?

Now, the latest # for the hydraulic tensioner is, 119 050 1711, and that is different on the '92 made I refer to.

So wich is it, does the tensioner have an upgrade or and is it revised?

Yes, the timing chain tensioner was revised mid-production. I thought there was some factory documentation which explained the change, but I can't find it. I don't know if the revision would be considered an "upgrade" or not.

IMO, the tensioners have a very low failure rate; I can't ever recall someone posting about a chain tensioner failure on the M119 engine. I don't think the tensioner needs to be replaced proactively at a particular age/mileage.

The oil filter backflow checkvalve would be a COMPLETELY different discussion, the early ones should be replaced with the newer/upgraded design, to eliminate a cold-start rattle from the cam adjusters. There's a TSB about this.

Taxi driver :)

if you noticed in the video..he DID find a fault to the tenisoner though.but i reckon it was an "non original " one..if i remember correctly?

but the tensioner piston was sticking inside the "sylinder".
which then again CAN cause rattling on the initial startup :)
