Car Wizard shows off a W124 300E with a blown head gasket

Looks like a nice car, except for the 1970's powerplant. The M103 was not one of MB's better efforts.

Wiz failed to inspect the rear wheel lower support joints, which I guarantee are completely shot (if not recently replaced). And, those tires aren't quite dead yet. That 300E isn't going to spend any time remotely near 100mph. At city speeds, the tires should still be serviceable until the cracks get worse. But yeah, I get warning the customer that they're 10 years old. I stopped replacing old flex discs if there are no severe cracks or vibration issues. Mostly a waste of money.

I guess Wiz's shop rate is only like $150-$175/hr, if he's claiming 17 hours labor is only half of the $4k-$5k head gasket estimate? Transmission shifting rough could be as simple as a bad vacuum line or modulator, or ATF overdue for replacement. At 90kmi the trans is unlikely to need more than some seals replaced. Car definitely looks clean inside.
