WANTED Center Muffler

124-490-77-21 appears to be NLA from MB. Used ones are often in sad condition, or rotted out. Have you considered replacing it with a Y-pipe, especially if the connecting pipes at each end are still intact/usable? The muffler itself could be cut out and replaced with pipes welded in.

Another possible option is buying a new 400E center muffler and having it modified to fit the 500E... input pipes are the same, but the output is different. Or, a matching 400E rear muffler could be made to work, I think, with some tweaking. The outlet pipes sit lower on the 500E muffler to clear the deeper bumper. The 400E center muffler (124-491-23-00) is still available, ~€411 with VAT, or under $500 USD from USA dealers.

With MB going NLA on everything it going to get a lot tougher for those of us who want to keep their cars original.
Does anybody make an aftermarket 500E resonator and back box muffler aftermarket? Obviously MB sourced the parts from an outside manufacturer.
Would that OEM still be making and selling the mufflers.

I have a brand-new 124 490 77 21 sitting in my garage. I bought it from Tom at MBUSA earlier this year. (Not sure why, as my 500E exhaust has been extensively modified, and it would take a lot of work to re-instate the original to be able to use the centre box!).
The box cost me $595 (Euros 537), plus shipping.
I haven't researched the cost to get it to you, but guess it'll be around Euros 70/80. I can look into this if you want.

Thank you Dave. The wholes situation is really my fault, as I messed with the stock set up by having had a straight through custom made “plug and play” pipe installed, replacing the OEM resonator. The OEM resonator connection pipes got destroyed in the process and, to add insult to injury, the new straight pipe sound is totally not to my liking- shouldn’t have messed with it all in the first place
Anyway, I absolutely want to get back to the stock setup to have that subdued and mellow original sound again. It’s just crazy what all has been going NLA recently

Received the brand new resonator from r44raven and had it installed today. Super pleased to have the car back to original again. It's awesome to see the built quality of the OEM parts on our cars. It feels like the amount of material used for the resonator alone would be sufficient to build an entire Prius

If you need both, consider the cat-back system from either Fox in Germany, or Leistung in SoCal. With Fox you have the option of including the middle muffler, or a Y-pipe alternative to add a bit more rumble.
I’ve got a clean, rust free middle resonator and muffler section but they don’t have the full pipes on them and would need some welding done at a muffler shop.
I have zero other leads. The center muffler (resonator) has been NLA for years and will be particularly difficult to find in usable condition.
Rear muffler 1244907821 is still available new, pick your favorite dealer.
