Hi Everyone! I'm getting these codes on my 500E... Can anyone explain them? Should I be concerned?

Any help will be appreciated.

I don't like how the LAUNCH scanner reports codes. The first paper shows BM/GM module, but the codes on the second paper are from the ASR module.

Anyway - if your ABS and ASR are working normally, car is driving normally, I'd ignore those. The proper test would be to clear the codes, drive the car for a while, and re-check to see if the same codes re-appear.

Agree with GSXR 100%. That scanner you are using doesn't tell you which sub-system the codes are coming from !!

You are going to be better off for basic diagnosis with just using a home-made blink-code reader, which will give you basic codes, and the ability to clear most all codes from the system to baseline things. You can check each system, one at a time, with the blink code reader so that you know which system each code is associated with, and you can clear them individually.

There is only one system that provides more detailed codes, that a better scanner (not the blink-code scanner) will be required for. This is most useful when you are having issues, such as an ASR issue. The system that provides the more detailed codes is the EA/CC/ISC (throttle body & cruise control & idle speed) system. As I mentioned, the EA/CC/ISC also provides more basic codes that you can get via the home-made blink-code reader -- they are just not as specific as the detailed codes that it provides to more detailed scanners.

In a practical sense, what you need to do going forward is this:

1) Throw the codes you have on the paper above, into the ditch.
2) Use a home-made blink code reader or a scanner or some sort to reset all codes in all sub-systems.
3) Drive the car for 50-100 miles (as GSXR says) to see if any codes are re-set into the system.
4) Re-scan the system using a blink-code reader or a good quality scanner.
5) Translate the codes to see what issues exist and interlinks between any set codes there are. Folks here (as well as past posts) can help you with this process.

Cheers,
Gerry

Thank you for this! Can you recommend where I can get a blink code reader from. - I know nothing about this sort of thing. Will I need anything else or is that it?... My car is a 1993 500E. With the circular plug in point....

Hi Gerry,

Those links have not come through. Can you resend please.
Steve, the links are in post #5 above. Not sure what device you are using to browse the forum but you should be able to click the links if you scroll up. (Note: I'm not Gerry nor do I play one on TV.)

BTW, your 38-pin connector has 1mm diameter sockets. You cannot use a code reader with 4mm diameter "banana" plugs, unless you also get a breakout box. This is explained in one of the links above. I'd recommend buying the breakout box, the extra cost is worth it for the reduced headaches.
