My car is not running smooth when idle and some times it also not starting on all cylinders, I have new upper harness so I checked the spark wires.

I believe its the problem! So I added a few pictures, but How much should be replaced?

looks like your wires are too bad which is apparently an issue. I would also replace rotors and caps these things are like an oil change on older M119.

I used on my car all 3 Bosch (caps, wires, rotors)

Caps, rotors, wires.

What brand were the wires and wire ends, btw? Bosch, Beru, Bremi, Karlyn, etc? I've never seen a wire corrode apart like that. Yikes!

When I first got my car I started having starting and cut out problems. Investigation on ignition amazed me that the engine ran at all, the wires were corroded green and crumbling as in the photo. The car had been used in the North of England and Scotland, a climate just like Denmark.

Yea looked a bit wierd to me, I'll check with my lokal Mercedes dealer Monday.... If too expensive I'll look towards germany.

The old wire ends was Beru.

I have now replaced rotors and caps and wires to all sparks, I still need to replace the two wires in the middle, they are ending in two black boxes guess its fuses, but dident open them.

After the replacement there is a little rattle sound from the left rotor, should I be concered and do further investigation?

The other two wires go to the coils. You need to replace those also... and yes, you should be concerned about the rattle sound!!

:duck:

I broked a vacuum/rubber hoses attached to the top of the motor while replacing spark wires, but the strage is i think its was blocked with dirt.
Anyone know its purpose?

I took one of Gerry's pictures, this is the one:

That is part of the PCV (Postive Crankcase Ventilation) system. Those hoses are supposed to be soft rubber. If they are fossilized and feel like plastic... replace ALL of them. Be warned - they are bloody expensive.

:spend:

If your car has more than 80K miles on it, and you don't know for sure that these PCV hoses have been replaced ... i will GUARANTEE they are fossilized and in need of replacement. They get cooked, plus the rubber just gets old.

I did mine back in about 2005-2006.

They are fossilized, what are the impact not using them? They have been fossilized for years....

I'm facing another problem as well, after I powered on the battery again the left turn signal bulbs keep lightning (not blinking) even though the car is powered off.

Cracked or damaged PCV hoses allow unfiltered air into the intake. Just replace the hoses...

My old E420 had the same issue. When i pulled the oil dipstick while the engine was running, oil would gush out all over the belt - not very funny.
Well at least that was one of the symptoms from clogged PCV lines. Replace them all ASAP.

How difficult are these hoses to install? It appears that you have to remove the valve covers?
(I just did that when I installed my metal oil tubes.)

I am particularly AFRAID of the one that goes down next to the MAF.

Hi-jacked this picture from the internet as EPC was empty:

Take a look at this thread describing the breather hose replacement; http://www.500eboard.com/forums/sho...r-hose-(-)-replacement&highlight=engine+hoses

Dave posted the parts list for the breather hoses in post #6.

The breather hose on the ETA requires ETA removal to replace it.

There is a spring clamp holding it on as well
