Take a look at this on UK e-bay (it has a 124 part number), link below.
Mercedes tool part number 124-589-16-21-00.

What ever is it for ? SLS testing ? goodness knows if it even still works but it looks like it
would have cost a fair bit back in the day

No affiliation just interested in what its for

Looks to me like a (hydraulic) pressure tester for the brake system. You'd probably want to have a pair of them for testing the system on each axle.

Leitenberger is a well-known German firm that makes special tools, especially for pressure testing, engine testing, and so forth. A hydraulic brake system pressure tester would be in keeping with the sort of stuff they make. Looks like it would have been made in the mid to late 1980s, so would probably be appropriate for cars of that era - 124s, 126s, 107s, etc.

Thank you Gerry it was just such a nice old school kind of item, it reads up to some high pressures
I know its easy to knock main dealers for high hourly rates but they do have to invest in a lot of
expensive kit. I cant see a back street garage having a pair of these!
Thanks also to who ever provided the link and pictures

I believe that dealers get a pretty good discount from the factory on tools required to service the cars, so it's probably not as much as it would be for a non dealer person to buy it. But, definitely a rather esoteric piece !
