Door jam VIN sticker

Can the door jam VIN be purchased from Mercedes? If not, anyone familiar with someone making reproductions to order?

Hoping to avoid masking the sticker off during repaint as it often results in over spray or noticeable lines of new paint.

Absolutely NO. The emissions decal above the passenger headlight cannot be purchased either. Some decals that were available in the past, are NLA and reproductions are the only option for those.

There's a fellow in Europe who has an e-store with various repop decals, and can custom make something for you.

If that is the only reason... spend the time masking & carefully removing afterwards. Reproductions are rarely perfect and it could cause problems in the future. Nobody is going to put a magnifying glass down there. And if you aren't doing a color change, do you really need too spray into the jambs...?

:peep:

@gsxr - That's not the guy who made the ones with the typo in them, is it?

LOL! We never did find out who made the screwed-up fake labels, which imitated North American labels and were applied to Euro/Japan spec cars to try and sneak past import inspectors or something.

The guy in Europe (posts on BenzWorld, IIRC) can make replicas if you send a high-res image plus dimensions. Dunno if he does VIN labels though.

Any VIN chassis number of Mercedes-Benz has a Theft Relevant procedure to be ordered.
ID and car registration needed, photocopy. I believe your local MB dealership can inform you. I believe it can be ordered.

If anyone has done this, please post details!!

Hmmm I’ll inquire with my local dealer.

I’m super picky so when it comes to masking the stickers it would have to be absolutely perfect which I know won’t be easy for pretty much any body shop.

There’s a total of 3 stickers that need to be masked, all with round edges which I’d assume makes things more difficult.

I’ve seen masking jobs completely botched and that does scare me 😳

I’ve spent a lot of time removing parts for the best finish possible and will be removing the doors, fenders and trunk lid so that we can get full full coverage. Would be a shame to do all that just to end up with a sub par finish on the door jam around the stickers.

Have you tried with a heater gun to soften the glue and carefully peel them off? Or will that destroy the sticker anyway?

Not a bad idea but I don’t want to even try it unless I know I have a good replacement option just in case something goes wrong.

Might end up just having them masked off. Searching every square inch of the web for original NOS replacements of the SRS and red sticker but no luck so far.

Which specific decal part numbers are you looking for? Under the hood, or in the door jamb?

Update:

As @500AMM recommended, I went ahead and removed 2/3 door jam stickers using a heat gun and a plastic razor blade. Both came off in a one piece and will be sent to a local sticker manufacturer and possibly one in Europe for reproduction to the T. Left the VIN sticker on for now, as I wait to get more info on a replacement… hoping MBCC can get me one.

MBCC won’t be able to help you with a replacement door VIN sticker. However there is discussion here on the forum about a vendor who does reproduce these stickers with information you provide them — pretty decent repops too.

Yup, confirmed with MBCC yesterday. There’s a local company my body shop has used and they said they’re identical repops. Debating whether or not I should remove the VIN sticker at this point.
