Loads of reading here on the subject. Short answer is the Euro lights put out better light than the US versions however the Euro lights are all but impossible to acquire. If one can find the items necessary, the cost will likely be in the $2000 to $3000 range.
If headlight "doors"(the common term for US headlight lenses) are yellowed but not cracked or crazed it may be possible to sand and clearcoat to bring them back to clear. I've used this method to restore two sets of W210 lenses with great results. I have not yet learned of anyone trying this on US W124 doors. With little other choice, it may be worth it regardless of cracking or crazing.
Look to U-boob for instruction. Make sure to use a clearcoat with UV protection such as Dupli-Color 1K clear.
As it turns out the MB dealer had the left lens over the inboard high beam as was asked. The crack was in the lower portion of that rather than the headlight lens itself.
Learning as I go….
Those are the same Depo lights you can buy from other places, possibly for less. Also, the wire "adapter" they include is a joke... what a terrible solution, vs including the proper 6-pole pin bush housing (which probably costs less!).
