E500 is Firebird Raceway Track Champion

Re: GSXR is Firebird Raceway Track Champion

WooHoo...congrats Dave!

Thanks, guys! It was a close points race... I went into the last race (Sunday, Sept-12) only 10 points ahead of Chris Townsend, who was in second place. And he's a REALLY good bracket racer - I figured my chances of pulling it off were slim. We managed to avoid each other until the final round, where I just squeaked by with the win. Of course, it helped that his car had the CEL pop on mid-track, causing him to run slower than expected, but I wasn't complaining. :D

Deja vu all over again: It was almost the identical situation to last year - in 2009, I also went into the last race 10 points ahead of 2nd. Both years I was behind in points most of the season, and slowly closed the gap by the end of the season. Track news from the final Sport Compact race in 2009 is at this link (fine print in first sentence). I'm hoping for a better start in 2011, lol!

I'm curious, what does that second place guy pilot?
Thanks, Eric! :D

Oddly enough, the guy in second this year drives a stripped Subaru SVX that is trailered to the track. The car is very consistent and tough to beat. Last year's second place (who was the previous year's champion) drives a Dodge Neon! Remember, with bracket racing, it doesn't matter how fast your car is - but it's more fun to drive fast ones than slow ones!

Wow - my first time ever in the track's "Racer Spotlight" on their website! Click here... this will probably only be posted for about a week, they usually change this page weekly. I saved it to PDF file as well (see attached).

The track is family owned & operated, the fellow presenting the trophy (Bill New) is the family patriarch who has now let his (grown) children take over most track operations. It is VERY, VERY rare for him to present a trophy... I've never seen that in the 6+ years I've been going there! I bought an 8x10 copy of this photo, might have to get it framed. It was mostly dumb luck... he happened to be walking by just as they were getting ready to take the photo, and one of the New family said "Hey Dad, would you like to present this one?". For once I was in the right place at the right time, lol!

Reality check: I didn't do so hot at the races yesterday... went out second round in both my classes. Oh well - can't win 'em all!

I blame it on my wife, who is a great cook! That's also probably why my car wouldn't run 13's this year at Firebird... all that extra weight...

:lolol:

Just be careful cause you don't want your butt dyno to start losing it's accuracy!

I like how there is some spent rubber clearly visible on the car's paint in that picture!
Regards, Eric

That's a classic picture, E500 in the Winners' Spotlight! Congratulations, Dave.

Nice that they mentioned some background on your cars.
