E500E Fuel Line Availability Update

According to my research, a couple (and perhaps three) of the E500E "soft" (rubber) fuel lines are now NLA from MB.

I am checking to see whether 210 or other lines can be adapted or retrofitted for E500E duty.

I've updated availability and pricing information in the fuel line table above, and also added a couple of lines in the fuel pump/filter area. All new information is in blue text.

If you have not replaced your fuel lines, particularly those underhood and from the fuel tank to the fuel pumps, you are living on borrowed time. This is a HIGHLY recommended maintenance action.

I added a couple of photos of factory fuel hoses to the table above.

Right now I have examples of every single one of the hoses above. I did some looking over the weekend at the two hoses that are NLA. Although both are braided, they are still hoses, and are still subject to the heat and conditions in the engine compartment, and are still 25+ years old if never replaced. This makes it prudent to replace these fuel lines.

I found that both of the fuel lines in the engine compartment of my 1989 560SEC had deteriorated and required replacement, as well as the lines in my former 1995 E320 wagon. I do not expect things to be much different with the 1992-1994 500E/E500.

The braided hose above (124 470 52 64) has a 2015 production date. The small, inexpensive hose (124 471 32 23) has a 2014 production date. These were hoses that were JUST received from MB in the past couple of days.

This is the short metal line that goes between the fuel pump and the fuel filter.

Did you replace your fuel lines, if they are original?

Only the fish hook one. The inlet to the fuel pump looked to be in fine condition but my guess is it may be original. In the photo you can see the clamp screw looks untouched and red marked, which I guess is a factory marking. Hose looked fine but that may be a 25 year old hose now. So, add 124-470-69-75 to order list and to-do list.

FYI on the #14 washer for the check valve... the part number shown is for the two thin copper washers. You can double-up two of them to replace the single if needed, or just use the thinner one if there is adequate thread depth.

It appears that this hose has gone NLA in the past couple of years, unfortunately.

I did check the availability of all of the other hoses, and updated the entries in the table accordingly.

MB Classic says it's still available, which offers a faint glimmer of hope, unless it's a very recent NLA and the site hasn't been updated yet:

Yes, with ease. I had an NLA fuel line for my G-wagen made at a local hose shop here in Annapolis. It cost about $50. Not a big deal.

I have that newly NLA hose in my parts stock, new (hence the photo of it in the table in post #1).

However, I am placing a new MB parts order tomorrow with MB of Annapolis, so I will place another on on the order list.

I bet $20 that Eddie will inform me that it is NLA in their system in the order acknowledgement and location follow-up email. I'll certainly know by mid-day tomorrow or Thursday morning at the latest.

Remove it take it into a hose shop. See what they tell you. If not satisfactory, find another competent hose shop.

The damage to that hose is external, and if you have corrected the problem which caused the abrasion, it should be fine. I'd still look into getting it rebuilt (assuming it is NLA new), if yo do get it rebuilt, let us know how it turns out.

I have never purchased a new fuel hose from MB.

It is easy to cut the metal clamps off the hose ends and this will expose a barbed connector below.

Then carefully cut and measure the inner bore of the hose and buy proper fuel rated braided rubber hose from a local auto parts store and add fuel clamps to each end. This includes ALL fuel hoses including the large diameter one from the fuel tank outlet itself.

Then as preventative maintenance it is thereafter cheap, readily available & easy to renew the fuel hoses every few years.

It is perfectly fine to use reinforced rubber fuel hose on this application they will not burst- do make sure the bar pressure rating is clearly stated on the hose.
