Factory Alarm and keyless entry or no?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but did 500e's or e500's come with alarm systems? And if so, was it the same system through all years? And was the system fitted in all specs?

My 500e has small red LED's in both front doors next to the lock thingys that comes up. However upon removing the door cards I discovered the wires are cut on both side. I'm wondering if this is after market or stock. And if stock, where would I find the alarm system so I can try and wire it up again?

Did any 500e500's come with keyless entry remotes as with the 129's? I saw on 129's that you could use the remote to close the windows or even turn the key in the drivers lock and hold it turned for a couple of seconds to close the windows. Did w124's have this? Or any other secret function?

Am curious but also trying to bring my car back to its original Euro condition and knowing what it's supposed to do is the first step!

Cheers,

Henry

Yes, the 500e did come with a alarm system. It was standard in the US, may of been optional in other countries. The LED's in your doors are aftermarket. The 500e alarm LED is in the dash, where one of the buttons would normally go. You could integrate your door LED's to the factory LED and have all three blink when you arm your security system.

NO US W124's had factory remotes. With the 500e factory alarm, you could use the key in the door to raise your windows (and close the sunroof)

The USA models got the LED in the dash starting with 1993 model year, IIRC, along with a starter lockout relay... slight change from 1992 (and older) model year design. But all 124's had an alarm of some sort.

I'm not sure when the IRCL remote system became available in Europe but I don't believe it was in 1991... may have come with the facelift in 1993/1994?

:detective:

How do you raise and lower the windows with the door key?

Right, Europe Models got the IR Remote late 1993 If im not mistaken, together with the LED in the dash if you chose the alarm system.
The older ones sometimes do have some sort of an LED Switch or so next to the Headlight switch, mine for instance features such a "useless" pushbutton type switch. Dunno how that works and if it ever worked.
