I know, I know. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. I'm glad I didn't use it three times like I wanted to on your exhaust pipe post...

Other than Jono, probably very few of you would hang with me on most roads, yet you're always all wadded up about this first fifty feet of motion from a stop(!?)

See corrected post #42 above...

We have officially reached the point where one could have installed the valve body in the same amount of time it took to read and write all the posts.

I certainly understand why someone could be a little intimidated at the thought of swapping the vale body. I was quite reluctant myself and it took me about six months after purchasing it to get the nerve to do it. Once I got into it I found it wasn't anywhere near what I had expected. It took me a few hours to to it because I originally tried to replace the pan without removing the crossover pipe and the pan gasket got buggered up which manifested itself once I started pouring transmission fluid in and heard it hitting the garage floor.

What Klink said in his rant. MB like it that way, is generally the reason for what they do, seems to me. If you don't like it, they let you do it your way. Hence, I virtually always drive the S55 in Manual mode, because I might actually want to do what MB is busy protecting the bulk of its customers from doing. It's also fun through the hills, when I actually encounter any. Snatching away from traffic up the mountain by downshifting to 3rd at 90mph, knowing no one else on the road can even think about keeping up, is actually fun. And I don't want to have to floor the damned thing to do it.

Same here. They deemed SGS "sufficient". I disagreed, and I didn't feel like slapping my shifter around (which, by the way was what I was advised to do). I'm slow sometimes, and just couldn't get that damned B thing to work the way I wanted. So I went another way -- FGS.

I'm happy to hear we all still think the damned things are virtually indestructible though, given proper maintenance. That's classic MB.

Cheers,

FGS Start valve body installed last night with the help of a MB Tech friend. Car works as hoped but now the yellow triangle light thingy keeps coming on :teufel:

Wider and stickier rear tires on dry pavement help remove yellow triangular thingy.
I always like the Michelin PS2's. Some sizes discontinued but possibly replaced by Pilot Super Sports.

UPDATE… years later, FGS was the way to go. With ASR turned off and adult driving, you get a driving experience that belies the age of the car. It feels better than most modern transmissions, let alone something 30+ years old. Of course, you have to feather in the throttle, as with any other RWD performance car or else you’ll get more wheel spin than you want.
