Front Shock Rubber Shim/Buffer

I am replacing most of the front suspension and steering on my 94 E420 and I'm trying to find the correct part number for the rubber shims on the top of the front springs. The EPC shows two numbers based on spring size and color code: The COLOR CODE IN BLUE 1 (8mm) is 201 321 09 84. The COLOR CODE IN RED 2 (13mm) is 201 321 10 84. Is there a way to know, based on VIN or do I have to physically measure or check?

Also, I see Naperville has the front shocks for $146.56 each. Is there a suitable equivalent for less or should I go with the factory?

Thanks.

Jon, you would need to check the color stripes on your springs - and also check what pads are currently installed. See attached image, also see this document.

You could use aftermarket OEM front struts (Bilstein/Sachs/Boge), which may have a lifetime warranty. If you go this route, pick the "HD" version, not "comfort". The OE/dealer struts have a 2-year warranty but are likely better suited to the application; the EPC shows the part number is unique to the .034 and a couple of long wheelbase 124 chassis. I suspect they are valved differently for the higher weight.

Thanks, Dave. I'll check when I get home. Or I may just go ahead and order a set of both pads since they aren't that expensive.
