1992 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series
mercedes 500e
1992 Mercedes-Benz 500e Sedan. Porsche-Mercedes collaboration. The overall condition is good. This 500E has a tight feel on the road and is fun to drive. The exterior color is Bornite which is gray with a purple tint. This is a rare color and aesthetically pleasing. It has a different look depending on the light. The interior is a light beige and contrasts well with the Bornite.
The following mechanical work has recently been completed: lower wiring harness, alternator, starter, oil pressure sensor, oil level sensor, engine mounts, transmission cooler line, rebuilt oil filter cannister including check valve, oil pick up strainer, lower oil pan gasket, front lower control arms, struts, coil springs, upper strut mount, bumps, dust boots, rebuilt tandem power steering and rear suspension pump, transmission cooler flex line, power steering return hose, rear suspension hydraulic pressure line, purge and replace power steering and hydraulic suspension fluid, catalytic converters, resonator, exhaust flange gaskets and mounting hardware, odometer gears, serpentine belt and tensioner, battery, engine intake manifold gaskets and air hoses, rear brakes, rotors, sensors and emergency brakes, all rear suspension links and lower control arm bushings, rear hat shelf re-upholstered, assorted interior trim pieces re-dyed, and new fuel tank sending unit. The upper wiring harness, throttle body and control module and one of the fuel pumps were replaced on this vehicle a number of years ago and are in good working order. The current wheels on the vehicle are 19" AMG mono-blocks with Michelin Tires. The car comes with the original Mercedes wheels. Also included are a used trunk lid and hood to complete a face-lift to the more modern look of the 1994 E500.
The car will need some interior work including the headliner. steering wheel, rear drivers seat and door post trim sections. The dash, door panels and seats are in good condition. The exterior body is in good shape with no rust and a few very minor dings. There is a crack in the lower front bumper. The paint looks okay in some sections, but the car is in need of a re-paint. The trunk lid is the most noticeable issue since it had a poor repaint by a previous owner.
It is possible that there are other mechanical repairs I have completed and simply forgotten to list in the description. I have receipts for all work completed since 2007when I purchased the car.
Terms of Sale require a $500 deposit through PayPal within 24 hours after the close of the auction and full verified payment prior to the pick up of the vehicle.
Good luck bidding or if you prefer, secure the sale with the buy it now price.

Too bad the paint is smoked. Bornite is super rare, right?

Also those wheels and tires are a pretty penny.

This car looks to have had a lot of the proper maintenance done. A fresh Bornite respray is in order.

I was thinking the same thing. Most of Gerry's in-famous $10k number would go into cosmetics on this one, which would be optional - not required.

I wish the photos were high-res, not from dial-up modem days. Also need lots more pictures, including the underside.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know. The under carriage is in good shape. There is a small ding in the back of the spare tire carrier that can be straightened. Otherwise it is clean.

Frank! Say it isn't so! :-(

The rims look great and fill out the wheel well nicely. The rims on these were refinished at Wheel Collision Center. Full Disclosure: I know these rims because they were purchased from me. Frank and I met and he got a laundry list of parts to refurbish items on his car. Looks like a lot from the list has been done.

GLWS!

The wheels on the car are actually a different set. They are Mercedes 19" AMG Monoblocks. I purchased them from a guy in California a few years ago. They definitely were not cheap. I have the set I purchased from Robert in the boxes and they are in perfect condition.

I am getting ready to relist my 500E on eBay. I have decided to take off the 19" AMG wheels and tires and sell it with the original wheels which will lower the asking price from $17,995. If anyone is interested before I relist on eBay, send me a private message or email me at ffinn11@gmail.com.

Well, my latest experience with eBay is a bit frustrating. My car sold for $15,500 and here I am 3 days after the end of the auction and the high bidder still has not paid the deposit. I have never sold on eBay before now. So far, the experience with bidders is not good. After the auction was over, the high bidder said he wanted to see the car before he made the purchase. I told him he could have inspected the car before bidding, but since he was the high bidder, he made a commitment to purchase the vehicle. I filed a claim for non-payment with eBay. Does anyone have any experience dealing with this kind of situation and if so what is the best approach to successfully resolve the issue with the high bidder.

Thanks.

Unfortunately it is becoming a "trend" on ebay. I suspect that ebay is generating some income for himself with these "successful" auctions.
When we sell a car we pay around 120-150usd which is automatically withdrawn from our bank account. Ok, I contest and what? This money is not given back to me. It appears on my ebay account as a surplus, which can be utilized in the future...
This happened to me 4 times in the last 2 month over 5 winning auctions :(
And last time I "sold" a nice 320 coupe to a Slovakian bidder, I checked his address, it was only at 80km from me, I went to say hello and nada... just a fake ebay pseudo, but with some recent activity, with 160+ positive feedbacks, etc.
Ebay must be struggling financially....

Thanks for the responses. At least I know it is not just my experience with Ebay. I have the add posted again. If this doesn't work out, I will have to try another approach.

I’m excited to say that I bought Franks car and it is on its way to California!!! Frank was a pleasure to work with and was very patient in answering all my questions and sending tons of pics. Car should be here in a few days. I’m excited to say the least. I look forward to learning from all of you as I delve into 500e ownership. Thanks again frank. She’s in good hands.

Thanks guys! Appreciate it. Can’t wait to get the car so we can get to know each other. My plan is to take care of the cosmetic issues first as the car was well maintained mechanically by frank. Once that is done, I will work on modding the car. Wheels and suspension would be first on my list to get the stance just right while maintaining and improving drivability. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Gotta get the car here first. Lol

Please start an "OWNER" thread when you take delivery of the car. That way you can document your ownership through pictures and description. It's one of the favorite features of this site.

Lots of wheel choices available, search the forum to see what sizes / offsets / etc work.

Be careful with suspension mods. Again, there are lots of old threads discussing this. I'd generally recommend bringing it back to stock condition with new parts are required. More often than not, suspension "modifications" end up making it ride worse. You have to decide if you want to sacrifice ride and handling in exchange for "stance". I've experimented a LOT over that past 15 years on multiple different 036's and now all I do is drop the rear end slightly. If you want less body roll, buy a set of sway bars from Jono and Blue Ridge MB.

And yes, please start a new OWNER thread!

:3gears:

Will definitely start a new owner thread once I get the car.

As far as the suspension goes, i did some research and all I’m after is to lessen the gap between tire and fender. So I’m looking at H&R sport springs and drop the rear to make the car more level and not have that bulldog stance. Duly noted on the sway bars from Jono.

Lowering the rear slightly will level the car out. If you get H&R springs, it isn't easy to get it level... the front will drop too much, and the rear not enough. BT, DT. I posted a lot of details in old threads. I removed the H&R springs from that car and put stock springs back in...

Is it in your possession yet, I would like to come up an check it out someday.

Won’t Limited springs help if you want to stay OEM?

Robert

Won’t Limited springs help if you want to stay OEM?
Good point, Robert. The Limited rears springs could potentially help re-sale in the future. If any spring swap is done, the originals should be kept in storage, since the stock rears are NLA now. I wouldn't be surprised if the fronts go away before long too. I'm also seeing mixed info on the Limited (#38) rears, not sure of current availability...

Man, the 036 stock springs are going NLA too? This is very worrying stuff. Why are so many essential parts going NLA - and will they ever re-appear. It appears to me that E500E partsmageddon may be in our ver near future.
