Would like an honest selling price on my 93 500E

Hello new friends!

I inherited this awesome machine from my mom. She was a big car freak. On many occasions she told me she would rather go homeless than sell her car or even put me up for adoption on the black market for money if she really needed it. As you can see it meant a lot to her! Sadly she passed away and now it is in my care and it needs a new home. I dont have a good space to keep it and I only drive it to keep it moving on the weekends a for couple miles. I am kindly asking for the help from the 500E board members if you can help me find a fair selling point. I dont want to hustle anyone but I also dont want to be on the reverse side either. On my original post I hastily tossed out a figure of 12k but Im thinking I undershot it by some. I greatly appreciate any help that is given. You all have been very helpful and im fortunate i found this board.

I was told by another member to start the price in the high 20s and go from there. GPT says 35k high end and down but I trust this group over AI. Thank you guys for being honest.

I wont touch the cig lighter. I grew up in the 90s and know better
ABS and ASR light on the dash is lit. I read it might be a sensor
Driver seat wear over 32 years on the left side.
Head board needs some attention
Not sure about the front wiper. I changed the fuse but i dont want to try it. Looks like the blade is incorrect and I dont want to mess with it until I find a new one.
Wood trim looks good except for the shifter knob.
I dont have any documents for it. She had them somewhere but it was impossible to find. I do remember her getting the transmission rebuilt cause of how much she said she spent. It wasnt cheap. As i said before she loved this car and did whatever maintenance it needed

Everything else works great. Sometimes I forget its almost as old as me so its doing really well. I plan to steam the seats. They are a little dusty and just needs some elbow grease. Carpets and dash are in excellent condition. Steering wheel shows normal wear. No curb marks on rims and tires are looking solid. Drives and runs great. It is a very quiet motor for the size and the transmission shifting is sharp. Suspension and brakes feel like new.

I have a couple of clips of it starting and running I could send if that helps also. Cant seem to upload here .

Thank you all again for your help. I would be lost if I didnt find this board. Much appreciated

$20k... +/-$5k. Is it a rough driver, parts car, or foundation to bring back to life? If the latter, then that will cost the new owner in the ballpark of [an additional] $20k (+/-$10k). I love a Signal Red W124...best of luck with the sale.

As mentioned in the other thread where you asked for input on this car, it has some significant issues which will affect the value. High 20's would be the ballpark if it had no accident history, good paint all around (including the roof), no significant dents, and no ripped upholstery. Or at least not all of those concerns, besides the inevitable mechanical needs. You are right that $12k was on the low side, but I think a reasonable market value will be somewhere in between. It will cost a substantial amount to restore this car, but it's a solid candidate for restoration. The rare color helps as well.

GLWS!

Thank you for all your help.

According to the production numbers here:

You have a one of only 17 signal red 500Es imported to the US. Certainly a car worth saving.
I think this is amazing info! Out of curiosity I wouldnt mind knowing how many sig red 500e are still on the road today stateside and if any were exported . I can't find any reports on that . I'll have to dig further
This is really fascinating . Thank you so much for you comment

Clean title but another member pointed out it might have been in a front end collision due to the lack of stickers on the radiator bracing. If there was a accident it wasnt reported.
Registered and smogged in CA on 7/8 this year.
No rust anywhere since this is Ca. The roof and both side panels show some sun damage causing clear coat issues.

Chances are very slim you would find that information. I can state from my own experience, that at least two different signal red 500E's were wrecked and parted out, as I bought parts for my own car from both of these cars, one was on the east coast and one from the west coast. Unfortunately, I did not get the VIN numbers, in retrospect, I should of.

The more I research the more interesting this car gets. The history is very rich. Like you said I wont find what im looking for or it would be very unlikely that i do. You did contribute some useful information however with what you experienced with the parted 500e's and I thank you for that!

LoL. You know there was a time before this forum I might have entertained that idea. I appreciate the members for knocking some sense into me and showing me what a special car this is. Thanks for your comment
If anyone is ready to sink the money into it, then you have to ask yourself the question "why not me?"

You may or may not have answers to that question, and they may or may not be good answers, as judged by yourself.

But whatever the case those answers will help you be at peace with either decision -- to "sell cheap" or "keep and invest".

Best of luck whatever you decide.

First off @Hiero thanks for everything if you get to read this!! Just want to update the club that i have purchased the car this past week. Confidently happy with the purchase overall. Flew to SF and drove it back to LA same night. The car needs TLC that pics can not tell or judge until you look with your own eyes lol.

WELCOME! Great to see this land in good hands (man your fleet is enormous) - start an owner's thread if you are so inclined!

@REDW0LF036,
Welcome,
The E500E in RED is one of my favorite color combos.:thumbsup2: I see Jlaa jumped all over this since he is the Owner of one also!

Anyway I hope you stick around and make use of our forum. Almost everything about these great cars has been discussed here. It should be quite helpful to you.

Hope to hear more from you soon.

Take Care:)

What a beauty! Signal red is my favorite w124 color. Seems like a great project car that needs a little love.
