Hello,

I am reluctantly putting up my beautiful 1993 500E up for sale, clean title. If you are looking for a stock car, this is NOT the one. This is a tastefully modified (by previous) bipolar monster. I have owned it for 2+ years and have enjoyed it every bit.

More photos to come, but here are some highlights:

1. Engine starts, Idles & runs super-smooth
2. Full Transmission Rebuild ~10k miles ago (before my purchase)
3. 9/10 Bright Silver Exterior
4. Rare Duck-Tail Trunk Lid and Rear quarter panels blended
5. Rare Brabus Exhaust, with nice low pitch sporty growl
6. 9/10 Black Interior, Complete & True Carbon-Fiber Trim, 2-Tone door cards
7. Brand New Music System $1200
8. 17" AMG Non-Staggered Rims with ~6k on Tires
9. Beautiful White-Face Gages
10. Suspension:new Bilstein HD shocks in front
11. Recent full tune-up performed

I will try to take additional photos as soon as it stops raining. Please email or text 510-358-5414.

Re: 1993 500E Silver/Black 148,xxx: $25,000

Quick update:

The car currently sits on new H&Rs but I am planning to revert to stock springs soon as I don't believe it helped the ride.

Speedy,

Did the ducktail give it away?

Is the "Cockatoo" is back from the dead?

It disappeared along with Scott and 500Ectasy.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Silver/Black, 148kmi, $25,000

Unfortunately I don't know the provenance of this car except that "Scott" is not the previous owner. Here's the VIN if someone wants to confirm: WDBEA36E5PB871190.

I was told that the car likely has a Renntech chip but I have not independently confirmed it. To anyone familiar with the car, any insight is appreciated!

From the few photos, and VIN showing the original paint was 702 Smoke Silver, I am 99.44% certain this car belonged to Scott Shell until late 2010 or Jan 2011, at which point he sold it to his mechanic/tech Benny Lui. I'm assuming you bought it from Benny a couple of years ago, if not, it must have changed hands again prior to your purchase. Several of the mods Scott had on the car are missing (Recaro Classic seats, Porsche big brake kit, probably some other bits) but 7 years is a long time, Scott or Benny could have swapped parts around years ago.

For those unaware, Scott (aka "runexe") was the owner/proprietor of the original 124.036 forum in the early 2000's, 500Ecstasy. Around the time that Scott sold his 500E the website & forum also went down permanently (circa Nov-2010) along with the wealth of information it contained. That is what prompted our current benefactor (Gerry) to create 500Eboard, which filled the vacuum left by the loss of 500Ecstasy.

:callinggvz:

GSXR: All factual, but the car did not have the mods you mention unfortunately when I purchased except for the Brabus Exhaust and Carbon Fiber interior. The car came with pitted 8-hole chrome wheels, which i thought was odd for such a beauty, it may have had Brabus wheels on before.

It is extremely likely that this car has a performance (RENNtech clone) type of chip, as Scott used to sell those chips to others "back in the day."

Yup, that would be Scott! Wonder what he's up to these days.

:runexe:
I had dinner with him and Benny a number of years ago (say around 2011-2012) and then again with Scott about 3 years ago. I think I posted a photo of Scott and I from our dinner. He told me at the time he was living in San Mateo, down the peninsula from his former home base of San Francisco.

Somewhat off topic... but the RENNtech chip that Scott had was quite the disappointment. At that time, I did not have the ability to read LH EPROM code nor understand any of it. Now I can understand a little bit, enough to have figured out that the RENNtech chip for 93-94 modules only removed the top speed limiter. There were no other changes to the code! (!!?) Which explains why my dragstrip & dyno testing of the chip showed zero power gains. The more amazing part is how much RT charged for that chip back in the day...
:spend:

Back on topic: This car has some very cool mods, especially the blended ducktail and lots of custom carbon fiber. I wonder if all the engine compartment carbon fiber bits are still present? Oh, and it has Jehnert doorboards too!

:drool5:

The Engine compartment mods are absent but the exterior still has CF trim pieces. The Jehnert doorboards are present but I haven't mounted any speakers.

WRT Renntech (or knock-off) chip, I noticed that the take-off and top range pull is much smoother compared to my 92' & 94'. Either it's the chip, or a placebo effect. Nevertheless the Brabus exhaust, relative to the Remus & Stock breathes magnificently, there's something about the combination of free-flow and the vibration that is so satisfying about it at speeds.

That's great stuff. Brings back many memories. I'll spend some time going through all the content. Thanks!

didn't we see a different 500E for sale not long ago with a two-tone treatment like this?
I think you're thinking of Louie's "Spruce Goose", eh?

I'm traveling for the next few weeks, so as to avoid a Spruce Mafia hit for that joke.... :jono:
