94 Mercedes E500, 117K miles, SoCal car, 1 owner 18 years​

Very solid E500 with excellent history. Purchased it from a relative, the original owner, last year. Car spent all its life in Palm Springs and Los Angeles. Zero rust, no accidents. Spent $4,000 recently to get everything mechanical perfect with exception of small leak in power steering. Drives beautifully -- solid and fast. Body is very straight, but paint is not as good as it looks in the photos. It is showing hairline cracks under the clear coat and there are numerous scratches. Michelins have only 3,000 miles on them. The interior is in great condition with the exception of the driver's seat back where the owner wore a hole into the bolster. To get it perfect, both front seats should be reupholstered. Overall a fun, reliable driver with potential for substantial appreciation.​

1994 Mercedes E500

Two-owner Southern California car. 119K original miles. Good condition, but needs paint

I’m selling my 1994 Mercedes E500 which I inherited three years ago from my wife’s uncle. He had bought it new at Mercedes of Palm Springs and owned it for almost 20 years. The car lived in Palm Springs and Los Angeles all of its life and has fewer than 120,000 miles on it. During my three-year ownership, I drove the Mercedes only 5,000 miles and hate to have it just sitting in my driveway. My daughter wants it for her first car, but I don't think she can afford the gas... The car is 100% original down to the wheels. It has zero rust and has never been in an accident, but its paint is oxidized. The clear coat is cracked in places and it has some scratches. It may look good in the pictures, but there’s no way around a new paint job. Mechanically, the car is excellent. Strong, smooth and quiet. No funny noises, no smells. Engine, transmission, brakes and suspension are all strong and tight. I've had it serviced regularly and just this month put on new tires and had it smog-checked. Registration is good till September 2017.

According to my mechanic, it has a small power steering leak. The interior is in good condition with the exception of a poorly-patched hole in the driver's seat bolster. Also, the headliner is sagging a little in the back. Carpets and floor mats are in excellent condition. Dash, instrument panel and center stack are in great condition. No cracks, scratches or nicks. Wood looks beautiful. All electrical (lights, gauges, accessories, sunroof…) in good working order, with the exception of the retracting rear head rests. Also, the car still has its original wiring harness which according to my mechanic is one of this model’s achilles heels. I took the photos to represent the car as realistically as possible, i.e. no wax, no ArmorAll and I didn't even clean the interior. The last photo is a screen shot of the E500's CarFax report.

The car is located in Calabasas, CA. I invite you to drive the car in person or have it inspected before bidding. Feel free to call me at 310/980-8099 with any questions, but be aware that I am not a mechanic and cannot make any representation about the car's condition other than how it looks and drives. This must have been sold and is now up again. It's not the same seller (or least it's not the same seller ID). In the old eBay ad, ending Nov 09, 2013 it says the car has 116,704 miles. Go forward to the next one, ending Sep 30, 2016, says the car has 119,000 on it. The write-up is: "I’m selling my 1994 Mercedes E500 which I inherited three years ago from my wife’s uncle..." And now the latest one, ending Oct. 21, 2016, it says it has 109,000 on it?? Typo maybe? The write-up is "After searching for several months I purchased this 94 E500 about a month ago from the original owner..." Maybe he means the same family?
My guess is that he is rapidly finding out what it costs to bring cars in this shape up to par. According to the current write-up, he changed the wiring harness as it still had the original.

Hope they painted some front bumper inserts. New seat leathers are probably from GAT (not the dealer), but at least those were replaced.

I call BS on the "one owner" claim, post #5 clearly states that was owner #2, and the current owner would be #3 (1 = uncle, 2 = nephew, 3 = flipper).

Lack of service records (nice excuse!!) is going to limit this car to a more realistic price. Perhaps even a decent deal for someone in the market.

Not to mention fibbing by seller about ownership history and restoration details.

Sigh. The lengths that people go to sell something. Sort of like the lengths that buyers go to string people along when they think they want something but can’t afford it.
