• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

Future of auto forums

I recently joined and noticed that facebook groups are more active than forums.
I don't own a W124 but in the time I have been here, the wealth of knowledge and experience has been priceless.

Facebook may be much more active, but good luck finding any useful information in there. Facebook groups and search engine is one big joke. Not to mention all the scams.

I'm starting to really miss the times when I had an issue, wrote it in Google and I got information from different forums. Nowadays I only get some copywriters garbage probably wrote by chatGTP...

While many general purpose forums have gone by the wayside over the years, replaced by various "newer" online chat forums and such, this forum has continued to grow, steadily. Five years ago, when this forum was 10 years old, we had 8,000 members. Today, five years later, we are 50% larger at over 12,000 members.

As always, the key to a successful forum is the quality, organization, and usefulness of the content posted, as well as the fact that the forum revolves around a specific, niche, topic.

Car forums that try to be all things to all people end up being nothing, to nobody. Car forums that are specialized on a specific topic or car model, tend to do much better. Particularly if the forum is pretty much the only game in town.

Take this forum, for example. You have Banzworld's W124 forum, as well as their W124 V-8 model sub-forum (of which the @gsxr is a de facto moderator of, as he is an admin of this forum). In terms of the V-8 model sub-forum there, it's pretty much a ghost town as compared to this forum. And that is because this forum is better organized, better moderated, and better quality. So it is possible to "beat" Banzworld, not to mention general forums and chat groups like Facebook's 500E forum (which I've never seen before, as I've not been a member of Facebook for nearly 11 years now).

I am always amused that various Banzworld 126 forum members cross-post the same questions there, and on the 126board. Again, because (with a very small user base) that forum is better organized and provides better quality information overall. 126board.com is growing, albeit slowly. Starting in 2024, I am going to put some concerted efforts into growing that forum and making it better and more useful for folks.

We have a lot of 034 and 126 folks here, too.....
I actually joined when I bought my first 034. There was no useful info over at BW for these cars. I know it's already been said but this is far and away the best forum on the internet with members who are both knowledgeable and friendly. I honestly doubt I would have continued to own a 034 (on my 3rd now) if not for this forum.

Let me also give a little plug to the W116 forum www.w116.org. Not sure how many folks here are 116 owners (likely not many) but that forum just chugs along steadily. I think Admin is an Aussie as we have many Oz members. Anyhow, worth a gander if you are a hopeless 116 fan like me:)
I wonder how many folks here on this forum have ever owned a W116. I had a 70K mile 450SEL 6.9 for a number of years.

The sale of my 6.9 funded the purchase of my 560SEC. Which, 21.5 years later, I still have and drive near daily.

I will just say that the W116 to its successor W126 was a major leap forward on a similar magnitude of the 123 to the 124, or the R107 to the R129. A great car for its time, but completely blown away in every regard by its successor.
