Gear lever is blocked from going into b. I’m new to 500e so appreciate intel. Thanks.

There's a switch that engages when you move the lever into "B", and this requires some force to engage. Have you tried pushing harder?

BTW, congrats on your new 500E, and welcome to the forum!

To check shifter bushings, put the lever in "D" position and gently press forward/back. There should be ZERO play. If there's any play, one or both bushing are shot. Cheap to replace but an hour or so of DIY labor. Details at this link if you need to replace them.

Thanks and much appreciated.
Just had bushings done and new wooden gear shift knob.
Not sure where the switch is?
There is a piece of metal that blocks the shifter from coming all the way down to 2 so can’t get down and over right to B.
have pulled the shift knob down to try to pull it into 2 but metal doesn’t move.
Thoughts?

The "B" position switch resides below the shift gate. You can only see part of the top of the switch fork (black plastic).

Can you post a photo of the metal which is blocking the "2" position? There should be NOTHING there:

Ok I see. Thanks for sending.
the gap for my shift knob to go in is on the right side not the left like here.

Sounds to me like someone moved your B switch over to the right. Use something like a screwdriver to reach into the slot and click the B switch back to the left so that it looks like GSXR's photo. Then your shifter will slide into it and you can use the shifter to move the switch to the right.

The new shift knob’s metal shaft may not be aligned perfectly left to right.

Are you having any issues pulling the key out of ignition?
